Red fire shrimp is a type of crustacean that is absent in nature. It is obtained as a result of selection. This unusual species is very reminiscent of the red cherry shrimp. There are suggestions that it was from it that the red fire shrimp was bred. Therefore, there is much in common in the maintenance and breeding of these individuals. However, there are differences that should be known to those who breed these amazing crustaceans.

History of the origin of the species

Owners of cherry shrimp aquariums have noticed that some of the individuals have an intense red color. They were caught and crossed among themselves. As a result, shrimp with a full body color appeared, and their size turned out to be larger than that of cherry producers. Thus, the red fire shrimp appeared. It is assumed that the selection was not without the participation of other species, however, this fact has not been proven.

Features of behavior

Aquarium red fire shrimp differ from their counterparts in low mobility. These individuals can graze all day on the bottom of the aquarium or on algae. They are very much like a leisurely herd of herbivores grazing on an earthly pasture.

Coloring

When breeding this type of shrimp, the main goal is to achieve uniformity and intensity of color throughout the body of the crustacean, without a translucent layer. Therefore, in describing the red fire shrimp, the main characteristic is the intensity of the color, which can be either bright red or orange. At the same time, individuals of orange color have a matte surface, and red ones have a shiny one.

Content Features

Because these individuals are very similar to red cherry shrimp, the maintenance of red fire shrimp is similar to the conditions required for their counterparts. However, it should be noted that when breeding this species, a sufficiently large number of genes are accumulated, which can lead to the appearance of defects and predisposition to various diseases. Therefore, red fire shrimp are more whimsical in keeping and breeding.

Aquarium conditions

Special attention should be paid to the water in which these individuals are kept. It must always be transparent. The water in the shrimp tank should be changed periodically, with no more than 25-30 percent fresh water.

Heavy metals (especially copper) and their s alts, as well as nitrates and ammonia, are detrimental to these shrimp. If individuals are kept in the same aquarium with fish that need treatment, they must be deposited in another container before adding the medicine. Also, the means by which they destroy snails are dangerous for them.

Aquarium water should be constantly filtered to maintain a low s alt balance. In order to neutralize chlorine and chloramine, it is necessary to use a water conditioner or to defend the water for at least a day. Commercially available products can be used to neutralize various toxic substances. The walls of the aquarium must be constantly cleaned of organic residues. Keeping shrimp and fish together increases the amount of waste, so clean the aquarium and change the water in it more often.

It is recommended to avoid overfeeding, because as a result, excess food residues settle on the bottom and walls of the aquarium, quickly polluting it.

It is desirable that the aquarium has a variety of plants that improve water quality.

Red fire shrimp feel good enough in a wide temperature range. It is important that the temperature change is slow. However, the most comfortable temperature for them is considered to be from 23 to 27 degrees, at which the maximum life span of shrimp can be achieved - up to two years.

Features of breeding

If kept properly, these freshwater shrimp will not cause much trouble in breeding. They are considered quite prolific. You need to know some features of their breeding.

When females reach puberty, eggs develop in their ovaries. If the color is not too thick, in the through light of the shrimp you can see the testis (egg mass) in the area where the tail is attached to the head. Here are the underdeveloped eggs. After the formation of a batch of mature eggs in the female, she sheds her shell and releases pheromones. With this, she invites males to mate. Males begin to show activity in search of a female. After fertilization, the female lays her eggs in the lower part of the tail, where they remain for two weeks. If the water temperature in the aquarium is not high enough, this period may be longer. Small shrimp are visible in the eggs after a week. The cubs are very similar to their parents, only they are colorless. After they hatch, the little shrimp sit at the bottom, feeding just like the adults.

A feature of these freshwater shrimp during intensive growth is molting - dropping the outer skeleton. Empty skeletons should not be removed from the aquarium. Shrimps gradually eat them, replenishing their calcium reserves. This is very helpful for the growth of a new skeleton.

Gradually transparent babies become scarlet. After a few months, they can no longer be distinguished from adults. Females have a more saturated color, it is on this basis that they differ from males. However, breeders are currentlycontinue to work on improving this variety of freshwater shrimp, trying to achieve color intensity in males.
