Features of lacrimation

A kitten's eyes fester for various reasons. A veterinary ophthalmologist identifies several causes of watery eyes. If foreign bodies do not get into the eyes of a cat, and they are not injured, then the following diseases of these animals can become the cause: chlamydia, mycoplasmosis, toxoplasmosis, eyelid volvulus, herpes virus infection, as well as a violation of the outflow of tears and idiopathic lacrimation. The main symptoms of these diseases are specific discharge from the eyes of a cat, which can be watery or purulent.

Transparent, watery lacrimation is not as scary and dangerous as discharge from the eyes with pus.

Clear discharge can be really transparent, without any pigment, or it can be slightly brownish. Inexperienced owners ask why a cat has watery eyes with blood. Often cat owners observe such lacrimation and do not know that the discharge is colored in a certain shade. Pigmentation of the discharge is especially noticeable in animals with a white color.

If the cat's eyes are festering, and the discharge is yellow-green in color of the mucous consistency, then we are dealing with purulent discharge. They indicate that the cat has some kind of disease, an infection has been introduced. Having noticed discharge from the eyes of your pet, you need to know that they indicate not only an eye disease, but can also be systemic. That is, tearing with an admixture of pus indicates that there may be malfunctions in other organs and organ systems. Therefore, if you see that a kitten has festering eyes, contact your veterinarian immediately, because the disease, whatever it may be, requires a correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

What can you do yourself before visiting the vet? You can make your cat's condition easier by knowing how to give her first aid. And the first aid consists in the usual washing of the eyes. Of course, the cat will resist, so it is better not to do the procedures yourself, but together with an assistant.

When a kitten's eyes fester, use a decoction of chamomile or boric acid (1 tbsp. Half a glasswarm, but not hot water) and 0.02% solution of furacilin. To do this, take some cotton wool, wind it into a tourniquet and dip it into the liquid. Squeeze out excess liquid on the sore eyeball. Such washings will have a beneficial effect on the condition of the eyes. Burying the eyes of a cat in this way, you should definitely seek veterinary help, since the main cause of purulent discharge lies much deeper. And one more feature of instillation is that the cotton swab must be changed frequently to avoid re-infection. After the washing procedure, you can still apply 1% tetracycline eye ointment under the lower eyelid of the cat's eye using a special small spatula. All these manipulations should be done very carefully and carefully, because you have a living being in your hands, and you can cause him even more pain. Treat all ongoing procedures with full responsibility, and if you do not know how to provide assistance yourself, entrust the animal to the hands of an experienced veterinarian.
