Usually, cat care begins with combing. Any pet needs this, as the animal sheds, and dead hair must be removed. Of course, the owners of short-haired cats require less effort to keep the coat of tailed minions looking he althy and beautiful. They are combed 2 times a week, while their long-haired counterparts should be brushed daily.

For combing, brushes with natural bristles, combs with metal teeth and furminators are used - modern comb-trimmers.

Cats are amazingly clean. They devote a lot of time to thoroughly cleaning their skins. However, this is not enough for complete hygiene, sometimes the cat still needs to be washed. This happens if the animal, for example, gets dirty in something. It is also necessary to wash the pet before the show.

Caring for cats is, of course, not just about taking care of the coat. It is required to regularly trim the pet's claws as they grow, for this, special tweezers or scissors are used. You should also monitor the condition of the oral cavity of the animal. If there is plaque on the teeth, you need tovisit a veterinarian to clean them.

Necessary procedures that are included in basic cat care are ear cleaning and eye control. The ears of the animal are cleaned with cotton swabs, if they are very dirty, then a special solution should be used to clean the ears. Eyes, or rather their corners, and lacrimal “paths” are treated with cotton swabs dipped in weak tea or boiled water.

Features of caring for animals of some breeds

It is known that Persian cats are especially difficult in this regard. Caring for them is not limited to careful attention to thick and long hair. In addition, you need to monitor the condition of the eyes, because due to the special structure of the muzzle, their tear ducts are practically blocked, and the discharge from the eyes remains outside. They need to be cleaned every day.

Caring for cats of the so-called “plush” breeds (British, Scottish) is complicated by the structure of the fur, which consists of two layers. Such animals need to be combed very well with a slicker brush over and against the coat. For this procedure, you can use dry shampoo or special grooming powder.

It is interesting that hairless cats, despite the lack of fur, need careful care. Their skin secretes a waxy substance that supposedly protects it. For cleansing, it is enough to wipe the animal with a wet sponge or hypoallergenic wet wipes. Periodically, these cats are washed.

Specialized care

In the life of an animal, there are periods when it especially needs our care. So, for example, the sterilization operation performed, like any other surgical treatment method, implies, in addition to the usual care, the observation of the wound and its treatment. Care for a cat after sterilization begins with organizing a warm, dry place for her. It is better to use a box for these purposes. Pets must not be placed on a sofa, bed or armchair. When the effect of anesthesia ends, the cat will try to get up and walk, it will fall from the dais. The seam on the abdomen must be processed as the veterinarian says. This is usually done twice a day, using a gauze pad moistened with peroxide.
