What holiday is celebrated at the end of October? Many find it difficult to answer this question. Halloween comes to mind. This is what proper marketing means. All Saints' Day is not a Russian holiday at all, we started celebrating it not so long ago, but everyone has heard about it.
Unfortunately, under the influence of the masquerade on October 31, held under the auspices of fear and horror, we forgot about many other holidays that are much more fun and close to us historically and in spirit. Take, for example, October 20. You will be surprised, but there are many reasons to celebrate this day, if you wish, having a themed party.
Cook's Day
20 October is International Chef's Day. Despite the fact that this is one of the most beloved and popular professions around the globe, the official date appeared not so long ago, already in this millennium.
October 20 has been celebrated since 2004 in more than seven dozen countries. Internationalprofessional organization - World Association of Culinary Societies. If you're not impressed by the name, you'll be amazed by its size: the association has more than eight million members of the culinary industry from around the world. Agree, not every organization can boast of this.
On this day, they try new culinary masterpieces, hold cooking contests, invent original recipes, show master classes. There is no single way to celebrate this date, so everything is limited only by your imagination. You can arrange a dinner party, go to a restaurant that you have long dreamed of visiting but still didn’t work out, or just get together with friends and treat yourself to delicious treats. Remember, October 20 is International Chef's Day, which means you can forget about diets for a while.
Communicator Day
Another professional holiday on our list. This time exclusively ours, domestic. October 20 is the Day of the military signalman in Russia.
It all started almost a hundred years ago, at the beginning of the last century. The troops intended for communications were created in 1919. It was then that the central leadership was formed. The Day of the Military Signalman is celebrated in Russia relatively recently: the holiday was added to the list of official dates of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation by presidential decree only in 2006.
Military signalman is one of the most dangerous professions, with many risks. None of the military conflicts could not have done without the participation of these heroic people. There are many literary worksdedicated to the military signalmen of the Great Patriotic War. Many of them sacrificed their lives to restore contact, including with besieged Leningrad. The signalman had to combine the skills of a scout, partisan, soldier and knowledge of technology.
If there are signalmen among your friends, do not forget to congratulate them on this day.
Day of the Liberation of Belgrade
Since we have touched on the topic of the Great Patriotic War, we simply must mention one more reason to celebrate this date. October 20 - Belgrade Liberation Day. Exactly 73 years ago, the Soviet Army and the People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia liberated the capital.
Despite the fact that the day is not a national holiday, the holiday is considered one of the main ones in Serbia. The fighting lasted for a whole month, so the event affected almost everyone. About seventy thousand people were awarded a special medal "For the Liberation of Belgrade".
Air Traffic Controller Day
20 October is International Air Traffic Controller Day. 56 years ago, the International Federation of Associations of Representatives of this Remarkable Profession was founded. Now the organization consists of 137 firms and more than fifty thousand air traffic controllers.
If you think about it, the work of these people is somewhat reminiscent of the work of signalmen: they are also responsible for the communication between the crew of the aircraft and the ground, but in addition they are also responsible for flight safety and control the movement of air transport. It is they who dictate to pilots how best to change course in order toAvoid thunderstorms and avoid accidentally colliding with another aircraft.
The profession is really difficult and requires not only a certain level of knowledge and qualifications, but also serious psychological preparation. The air traffic controller cannot be distracted even for a second, because the slightest oversight or inattention is associated with a risk to the lives of passengers and crew.
If among your friends there are representatives of this profession, be sure to congratulate them on October 20 - International Air Traffic Controller Day.
Statistics Day
October 20 is World Statistics Day. The holiday is young and unbanal. The first time it was celebrated in 2010 by decision of the UN General Assembly.
It should be noted the original sense of humor of the founders. They clearly took into account the love of statisticians for rounding and round numbers in general. It is no coincidence that the date of the holiday's origin is October 20, 2010. This number is easy to remember and immediately associated with something unusual.
But that wasn't the end of it. The organizers went further and decided to celebrate this holiday on October 20… every five years. So the date will always be beautiful from a statistical point of view. In addition, this will allow the holiday to remain young for a long time. Remember all those jokes about those born on February 29th? World Statistics Day will age even more slowly. Once every five years is no joke.
At the moment, this holiday has been celebrated only twice, and, unfortunately, if you have planned to participate in the celebration, this is not expected in the near future. But youyou can prepare thoroughly and celebrate the memorable date with all your might in 2020.
Osteoporosis Awareness Day
October 20 is a day that serves as a kind of reminder and warning to people at risk: World Osteoporosis Day. The holiday has been celebrated for twenty years with the filing of the World He alth Organization.
Osteoporosis is one of the most common diseases and is increasingly seen in people over the age of fifty. Women are especially susceptible to it. Osteoporosis is the thinning of bone tissue. The bones of patients have increased fragility and can break even with a simple lifting of weights or hitting a door. The most unpleasant consequence of osteoporosis is a hip fracture, which is most difficult to survive in old age.
To protect yourself, you should watch your weight, give up bad habits, play sports and eat right. If you still do not dare to quit smoking, then there is no better date than October 20 to start life without tobacco. You can also celebrate this date by going to a fitness club or treating yourself to a natural food dinner.
Joke Gathering Day
Do you like to have fun chatting and telling jokes? Then this holiday is especially for you. Believe it or not, October 20th is Joke Gathering Day.
On this day you have an official reason to get together with friends, share funny news or have a joint viewingcomedies, as well as to please colleagues in the office with funny stories.
Did you dream of trying yourself as a stand-up comedian, but still didn't dare? Take action! This is the best way to celebrate a date like this.
Sergey Zimny
And finally, we should mention the old Russian holiday. October 20 (according to the old style - the seventh of October) St. Sergius of the Winter is celebrated. On this day, the peasants watched the weather and drew conclusions about when winter would come and what it would be like.
It was believed that if the leaves had not yet fallen, even if there was snow, winter would come only at the end of November. On this day, we tried to replenish stocks for the winter. Rivers and lakes were still free of ice, and people dropped barrels of pickles into them to get them when the ice melted and other supplies were running out.
Of course, other ways of storing food are available nowadays, and this is no longer so relevant, but on this day you may well pay attention to the weather and check if the omen works.
