This procedure is carried out in such a way that air does not get into the channels passing inside the stem, which can block these passages. Then access to the flower of water and oxygen will be blocked, which will accelerate their withering.
To make roses last longer, cut the stem with a sharp knife or secateursfrom stainless steel. The use of other metal tools causes oxidative processes that shorten the life of the flower.
To make the flowers stand in the water longer, after pruning, it is recommended to cut the cross section of the stem by another three centimeters crosswise along the stem, thereby increasing the area that the rose can absorb nutrient fluid.
Some advise to break off all the thorns of the flower. Allegedly, this action also increases the area of penetration of water and oxygen. But experts do not recommend doing this, because through the wounds formed after breaking off the thorns, air enters the stem, which, as mentioned above, clogs the ducts of the stem.
But it will be useful to remove leaves and thorns in places in contact with water - this will significantly increase their lifespan. Indeed, otherwise the leaves may begin to rot, which will harm the flower, and can cause a rather unpleasant smell in the room.
To make the roses last longer, they should take a “bath” at night: lower the flowers into a container filled with 7-12-degree settled water. Moreover, the stems should be completely submerged, but it is better to leave the buds above the surface, especially the middle of the flowers.
Pour into a vase should also be only settled water. In summer it should be cool 10-15-degree water, and in winter, on the contrary, warm, heated to 25 degrees. In order for the roses to stand longer, the water must be completely changed every 4 days, adding a new portion to the container with roses daily.
Flowers respond well to spraying them from a spray bottle. But you need to do this very carefully, try to refresh the flower only from the outside, but in no case fill in the middle of the bud.
The container for roses should be spacious, deep, so that the stem is more than half immersed in water. You should also ensure that the flowers are not affected by cold or heat, direct sunlight or drafts. The optimum temperature for them is from 18 to 22 degrees Celsius.
Experimenting with the addition of sugar, aspirin or vodka to water is best not worth it - no one has proven that such actions are useful for flowers. Yes, and the neighborhood of roses with other flowers can accelerate their withering.
