As the famous song says, "… a year or two and youth will pass, be patient a little." At a young age, few people think that old age is inevitable. How do not want to think about it when the body is full of strength and energy! Life passes unnoticed, like youth. It would seem that only yesterday they got married and now they have become grandfather and grandmother. Today, the whole country celebrates the Day of Pensioners every year, but most do not know how it appeared.
Where did the holiday come from?
Scandinavia is considered the birthplace of such a “young” holiday as the Day of the Elderly, from where it came to Europe almost three decades later, then to America. Only since the late 80s of the last century it has been celebrated all over the world, after the UN General Assembly officially established the holiday on December 14, 1990. Since then, every year on October 1, the International Day of Pensioners is celebrated.
Historical data
Not to mention that it was preceded by the 2nd World Assembly in 1982. It adopted the Vienna International Plan of Action and the Political Declaration, which were supposed to serve as a kind of signal to society to reconsider its attitude towards elderly fellow citizens. Among the issues raised, the most pressing issues were those of service and employment. Moreover, there is a tendency to increase the number of older people.
The incomes of this age group need to be increased and their welfare needs to be improved. Since the average life expectancy of women exceeds the same indicator of the stronger sex, then, naturally, there are more older women than older men. Elderly people still have sufficient potential that can be useful to society, as indicated in one of the paragraphs of the resolution. The difference in the material situation between the elderly in the West and in the Russian Federation remains insuperable. There was no holiday then, and no one knew what date the pensioner's day was.
So the issue of aging is really being taken seriously. And 1991 was remembered for the adoption by the United Nations of a special document called "Principles for Older Persons".
Official appearance in Russia
In 1992, the Day of the Elderly was officially celebrated on the territory of the Russian Federation. Specifically, this issue was included in the DecreePresidium of the Supreme Council.
The program for celebrating the Day of the Elderly is very diverse. In addition to concerts and conferences for the elderly, congresses are convened, exhibitions and evenings of rest are organized. It does not do without charitable actions, the initiators of which are usually public organizations and various kinds of associations. Retiree's Day is celebrated every year. The date of the holiday is October 1.
It has already become a tradition on this day in some countries to include films and programs in TV programs that correspond to the tastes of the heroes of the occasion. The Scandinavians are especially consistent in this.
Holiday Tasks
Be that as it may, the population is aging. Society should not distance itself from the existing problems that occur in the elderly. It is necessary to look for ways to solve them, to do everything possible to improve their quality of life. Retiree Day is a significant occasion to appreciate the life of the elderly. They need help from society every day. But not everyone is ready to provide this support.
It is generally accepted to classify those who have crossed the retirement age as the category of older people. Women in Russia retire at 55, and men at 60. The proportion of older people in the total population of the country is approximately 20.7 percent. But not everyone knows when the holiday is Pensioners' Day.
In most cases, people who retire are under a lot of stress. After all, there are drastic changes in life. If beforeevery morning you had to get ready for work, now you are, as they say, forgotten, abandoned. There is no longer any prospect of self-actualization. Plus, there are still significant differences in the amount of pensions and previously received wages.
Main goals
The undeniable fact is that old age is a natural process, wisely foreseen by nature. But this does not mean at all that everything is over with her arrival, there is nothing else left but to prepare for departure to eternity. One can cite a huge number of examples when people, being in old age, thanks to optimism, a he althy lifestyle and work on themselves, achieved the arrival of a second youth even at 80 years old. If a person has a desire, he will be able to arrange a completely fulfilling life for himself. On the Day of Pensioners, it is worth congratulating every elderly member of your family.
Old age awaits everyone
Don't lower your nose, slow down, take too much care and feel sorry for yourself. On the contrary, a person is given the opportunity to implement a lot of ideas, because before there was often not enough time.
You need to learn to adapt to change and lead the right way of life. The purpose of the holiday is not only moral support for the elderly. The younger generation expresses gratitude to them. The life experience and wisdom of those compatriots who have more than a dozen years behind them are of great value to the younger generation. October 1st is Pensioner's DayRussia.
