Probably, in all of Europe there is no other country that honors its traditions as much as Great Britain. Most of them originate in the Middle Ages. Some have become part of everyday life, others have become theatrical performances loved by all the inhabitants of the kingdom.
Daily customs and traditions of the UK relate to the life of the British, their work, upbringing. So, the most famous English tradition all over the world is tea drinking. Tea is preferred over coffee, tea is drunk anywhere, good tea is taken with them on a trip. And only after dinner, drinking this drink is considered wrong.
Traditions of Great Britain can be traced in the strict observance of etiquette, and, above all, at the table. Firstly, you definitely need to change clothes for dinner, it is indecent to go to the table in the same outfit that was worn by the diner throughout the day. Secondly, personal conversations at the table are unacceptable, at a particular moment one person speaks, and all those present listen to him.
Traditional is typical Englishrestraint. The subjects of the United Kingdom are never categorical in their judgments and know how to listen to the interlocutor, even if they do not agree with his point of view.
The traditions of Great Britain and the royal family do not bypass. The monarch serves as an example to his subjects. There are customs that exist only for him. Every autumn, he personally opens the session of Parliament. And before Easter, on Maundy Thursday, he distributes alms in any parish of the country.
Holidays and traditions of Great Britain are inseparable from each other. Along with the world-famous ones, such as Christmas, New Year, Halloween, which also have their own characteristics in the British Isles, there are also holidays that are unique to the United Kingdom. First of all, they should include the official birthday of the monarch, which has been celebrated on the second Saturday of June for about 250 years.
November 5 is Guy Fawkes Day. Every year, guards in costumes from 1605 search all the cellars of the palace, paying tribute to the memory of the day when the attempt on the parliament and the royal family was prevented. On this day, children run around the streets with a stuffed animal depicting Guy Fawkes and collect coins. And in the evening, such scarecrows are burned at the stake under the explosions of fireworks.
The British have great reverence for gardening and everything connected with it. In fact, each house has a small garden. And every year, at the end of May, the world-famous Chelsea Flower Festival is held, where from allcorners of the globe bring many flower exhibitions. Here you can not only see unusual and beautiful representatives of the flora, but also buy the ones you like the most.
British tradition also applies to competition. Nowhere else can you see a tournament of criers, except in August in Hastings, where criers from all over the country compete in the power of their voice. Or the parade of cars that have already exchanged the seventh decade is a very fascinating sight.
The British hold sacred their customs, which allows them to be proud of their country, its culture and history.
