Tankman's Day in 2013 was celebrated, as always, on the second Sunday of the first autumn month, namely September 8th. This tradition developed after the war, and in 2006 it was enshrined in our legislation. Even when Tankman's Day was celebrated unofficially, it was considered one of the most revered holidays of the Armed Forces. And since 2006, it has become even more significant. By adopting the law, the government tried to express the recognition by the people of the grandiose merits of tankers both in the complete defeat of fascist Germany and in modern wars.
History of the holiday
When the Tankman's Day just started to be celebrated, it was celebrated in the largest cities. This event was accompanied by a solemn movement of columns of tanks along major streets. Some cities even had fireworks on that day. In recent years, when the Day of the Tanker has gained popularity, this holiday has become an occasion for meetings of veterans. There are rallies, tank exhibitions, as well as a demonstration of extreme driving of combat vehicles.
First tanks
In 1920, in August, the first domestic tank was created at the Krasnoye Sormovo plant. Thanks to him, already in 1927, mass production of equipment (armored) began. Three years later, that is, in 1930, Zh. Ya. Kotin and M. I. Koshkin (more precisely, the design bureau under their leadership) created a new generation of tanks - KV and T-34. These tanks, in terms of their capabilities and characteristics, had a significant superiority over foreign armored vehicles. The T-34 became a real legend and was subsequently recognized as the best tank of the entire Second World War. The Second World War (Great Patriotic War) became a cruel test of the skill and courage of tankmen. In battles and on the battlefields, it was the tank troops that were the main crushing and striking force. They were also the basis of the reliability and stability of small arms defense. In the battle for Moscow, the tank guard was born. It was the fourth tank brigade, commanded by Colonel M. E. Katukov. Later, he became a well-known marshal of tank troops.
Awards
In difficult years, our tankers showed heroism and courage worthy of an award and the highest praise. Tanker Day in Russia is celebrated on a grand scale, paying tribute to the memory of the dead tankers, thanks to whom we live today and enjoy every day. For dedication and courage, 1142 tankers were awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Also, high state awards were awarded to 9,000 tank builders, thanks to which our countrywon. When the Day of the Tanker is celebrated by the whole country, a feeling of pride for our military and our country overwhelms. I want people to remember the courage of our compatriots and respect their memory even after many decades. The most difficult years of the war are already in the past, and our dear veterans must be thanked for this. There are very few of them left. A drop of attention will warm their souls, do not be callous and insensitive, they risked their lives for our future. Thank you, dear veterans, for your deeds!
