Curb tape: selection, installation and applications in the garden

Curb tape is a little trick of the modern gardener. It allows you to inexpensively and almost instantly change the appearance of the site, bring beds, flower beds or path edges into a neat appearance, delimit zones and make it easier to care for plants. These multi-colored plastic rolls can be very widely used in garden or vegetable garden decoration.

Flower gardens

The flower garden is a decoration of the garden, so strict requirements are imposed on it. Whatever form you choose to place ornamental plants - a flower bed, a border or a mixborder - they should look aesthetically pleasing. It is the border tape that will help create a clearly defined contour of any configuration. At the same time, it will also facilitate watering, weeding, mulching and other regular maintenance. Soil and fertilizer will not fall on the path after the rain, since the plastic will be able to firmly hold it all within the flower bed.

Rock garden

Rock garden (multi-tiered flower bed) must be built strong, capable ofwithstand rain, wind and other influences. The curb tape in this regard is very convenient - it bends at any angle, holds its shape well, it is easy to make "multi-storey" structures from it.

Lawn

A well-defined lawn that does not protrude onto the path looks well-groomed and pleases the eye. A narrow green ribbon will help create this effect.

Beds

The border tape for beds will not only add attractiveness to plantings, but also help save water. Moisture from watering accumulates where it is needed, without spreading over nearby areas, so its consumption is reduced, and the time between waterings is increased.

Tracks

If you protect the path with a plastic border, it will protect it from weeds and soil shedding from the beds. At the same time, you can lay out a path of any shape, the flexibility of the material allows such experiments.

Which border tape is best?

All ribbons are made from neutral, environmentally friendly plastic. Most often, Russian (the cheapest), Chinese, Polish and German (the most expensive) go on sale. The width of the border tape can be 10, 15, 20 or 28 centimeters. The thickness varies from half a millimeter to two mm. These parameters affect the cost of the product. The curb tape of the maximum thickness is the most convenient in operation. A reinforced edge will give it greater strength, however, at the expense of elasticity.

A quality product has the following properties: resistance tosunlight, allowing not to fade and not heat up, the ability to withstand temperatures from -50 to +50 degrees. In addition, plastic does not make noise in the rain, does not rot or decompose, does not release toxic substances into the soil and does not contribute to the development of mold. Curb tape typically lasts 5 years.

Installation

First you need to outline the contour of the future beds or flower beds in order to have an idea of how the curb tape will be installed. Photos of various options for such structures can be found in landscape design magazines. You can also come up with something of your own, suitable for the general mood of the design of the plot or garden, in order to make the most of its usable area. If you plan to plant annuals, then you can dig the tape up to 10 centimeters, for perennials it is better to deepen it by 20. The bends of the contour are created by hammered pegs. Two people are needed for installation - one pulls the tape, and the second tightly sprinkles it with earth.

If the length is not enough, you can weld the beginning of the next one to the end of one roll with a hot soldering iron. If there is excess, then the plastic can be easily cut off with a garden pruner or large scissors.
