What kind of communication methods do not people use today: e-mail, endless SMS, faxes, a lot of social networks. It would seem that an ordinary letter placed in an envelope with a window (or without it) can be forgotten forever. But life practice shows that it is too early to discount this type of communication. Business and personal correspondence, sending documents cannot do without a good old paper envelope.
History
A specific envelope for sending papers - this is the definition of an envelope. Mankind owes its appearance at the end of the nineteenth century to the English paper merchant from Brighton - Mr. Brewer. A romantic legend says that “clothes” for writing appeared due to the urgent need of some windy persons to hide correspondence with lovers from their husbands.
The envelope with a window for postal forwarding appeared much later. There are holes in the shape of a rectangle with rounded corners, but a strict geometricthe figure looks more aesthetic.
Varieties of products
All packages are divided into groups according to several main characteristics:
- as intended:
- format (size):
- sealing option:
- front side design - an envelope with or without a window;
- presence of a printed address grid;
- valve location and shape;
- by type of paper.
Despite the considerable diversity, they perform one function - the safety of the content, the protection of the message from unwanted reading by third parties.
Use
At the same time, the envelope with a window is used quite widely:
- for mail forwarding;
- document storage;
- distribution of fashion products;
- disc packaging;
- like bags for small bulk goods (such as spices or plant seeds).
The size of the transparent area can be different. For disks, packaging is made with round, almost the entire size of one side, plastic inserts. This allows you to view the contents without opening.
For postage, an envelope with a transparent window can be of different sizes. But for everyone, the recommended hole size is 4.5x9 cm, and there are rules for its location on the package. They depend on the format of the windowed envelopes. Margin sizes (with standard window layout):
- for DL (110x220), C5 (162x229), C65 (114x229) - at least 1.5cm from bottom and right edges;
- on C4 envelopes (229x324) - 5 cm on top and 1.5 cm on the right.
Manufacturers produce such products where the hole can be located in any part of the front side. Indents from the edge of the envelope of 1.5-2 cm are observed. There are packages with large panoramic windows - they serve more for advertising purposes.
The envelope with a window is great for mass mailing company promotional products. In such envelopes you can send business and corporate correspondence. Invitation or congratulatory messages look spectacular, with colorful drawings in place of transparent windows.
This is interesting
The study of ancient cultures revealed a curious fact. It turns out back in the third millennium BC, people were concerned about keeping the secrets of correspondence. The resourceful Assyrians thought of putting another layer of clay on top of the main text on a clay tablet, the name of the recipient was written on it. Then the tablet was re-fired, and a kind of cover was obtained. The recipient broke it and could only read the message addressed to him.
Birch bark in ancient Russia served instead of paper. The messages were folded, tied with a ribbon with the address of the recipient.
And the concept of urgent letters has been known since the eighteenth century. To designate it, small bird feathers were placed under the wax seal.
In the nineteenth century, the British used colored envelopes for different days of the week.
The form of modern postcards was proposed by the GermanPostmaster General Heinrich von Stefan. He pointed out the inconvenience of ordinary writing, which was not distinguished by simplicity and brevity. It was from his submission that the first postcards appeared in 1869.
The envelope with the window was probably invented by someone lazy. Writing an endless number of addresses when sending promotional products is a boring task. In addition to saving time, attachment errors are also eliminated - it is simply impossible to confuse the addressee.
