This resulted in the creation of the Ukrainian People's Republic (abbreviation - UNR). Strikes were allowed and the death pen alty was abolished. Then they began to celebrate the first Independence Day of Ukraine.

In February 1918, German and Ukrainian troops approached the lands occupied by the Red Army. Within a couple of months, the new power was liberated from the red occupation. The numerous interventions and civil war that followed this coup ended almost a year later, in Kyiv. There was adopted the Constitution of the state new formation - the Ukrainian SSR. This created the prerequisites for celebrating such a date as the Independence Day of Ukraine.

In 1920, a specific agreement was signed between the Slavic countries, establishing mutually beneficial military and economic assistance. It actually led to the dependence of the young state on the Kremlin government. Ukraine received its next chance on the path to political freedom only 70 years later, after the collapse of the USSR. As a result of the unrest that took place in August 1991, the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR proclaimed its country an independent democratic state. The Act of Independence was passed. It was confirmed by the will of the people during a national referendum that took place on December 1, 1991
