July 3 – Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus. This is a joyful moment in the life of not only the country, but also of each of its inhabitants. He is happy and sad at the same time. On this day, they remember the Great Victory of the Soviet people over fascism. After all, more than 30% of the inhabitants of this country died during the war. Do not forget about the dashing 90s, when confusion and chaos reigned in the country.
Role of Independence Day
Many nations have sought and some of them continue to seek sovereignty. For the Republic of Belarus, this freedom came at a heavy price. It was preceded by bloody wars and political regime changes.
But the goal has been achieved, and today Belarus acts as a sovereign state with its own Constitution and state symbols. It is a member of many international unions and organizations (UN, CIS and others).
History
Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus is primarily associated with freedom from Nazi invaders. On July 3, as a result of Operation Bagration, the capital of the Republic of Belarus, the city of Minsk, was liberated.
The beginning of the 1990s was a very difficult time for the state, as well as for other member countries of the USSR. The economic crisis has led to confusion. Factories closed, the standard of living of the population fell, and crime increased. But gradually life began to improve.
During the period 1991-1996 Independence Day was celebrated on July 27th. This date dates back to the Declaration of Sovereignty of Belarus, signed in 1990.
From that day on, the country gained independence. But this might not have happened if in 1944 the Soviet soldiers had not forced the Germans to the west. After all, according to Hitler's plans, 75% of the population would be exterminated. The rest would become slaves. Therefore, in order to perpetuate the memory of the heroes-liberators, it was decided to set a different date.
The initiator of the transfer of the holiday was the President of Belarus. At his suggestion, a nationwide referendum was held in 1996, as a result of which 88.18% of Belarusians voted to change the date of the holiday to July 3. Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus has since coincided with the day of the liberation of the capital of the country.
A year before this significant date, a new national emblem and flag were chosen in a referendum.
July 3 is officially considered a public holiday.
Various festive events are held all over the country. But the Independence Day is celebrated on a grand scale in Minsk.
Grand parade

July 3 is not limited to the parade alone. Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus is celebrated on a grand scale. Mass entertainment events are held throughout Minsk: exhibitions, fairs, concerts, discos, various sports competitions.

Residents of the whole country simultaneously become members of a large national choir. Thus, they show the unity of the Belarusian people in the face of all external threats and the importance of such a date as the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus. A festive concert with a grandiose fireworks is the final chord on July 3.
Achievements of the sovereign Republic of Belarus
