Real fashionistas often know more about fabrics than seamstresses. This is not surprising, because the choice of material for a truly exclusive and stylish item must be approached thoroughly. So, for example, you need to know what is sewn from a particular fabric: is silk suitable for sewing a skirt, what will be the effect if you take oxford on a shirt … And in order for a thing to last a long time, you also need to properly care for it. In addition, when choosing a material, you need to take into account its composition: are there any impurities in wool or silk, and so on. But how many types of weaving exist - do not count! A special way of weaving is crepe. And crepe chiffon is quite popular. So, let's look into the properties of this fabric.
Why "crepe"?
This prefix refers to all fabrics made in a special way of weaving. Crepes appeared relatively recently - the world learned about them in the nineteenth century. Everyone has probably heard of crepe de chine - the favorite fabric of all Soviet fashionistas. So, the French call this Chinese crepe. Obviously, it was in this country that weavers came up with an originalway. The family is not limited to one crepe de chine: there is crepe satin, crepe chiffon, and crepe georgette. All of them are united by the same name effect of roughness, graininess (by the way, this is how the common name of the fabric family is translated). How is it achieved? It's all about highly twisted threads that alternate in the direction (right twist - left twist and vice versa). When the canvas is steamed, the threads try to twist out, but it was not there. Therefore, the fabric becomes so bumpy. However, this does not affect its lightness. Crepe is most often dyed in a single color to emphasize its pattern. The advantages of fabrics of the entire family include lightness and wrinkle resistance. Therefore, the fabric will pleasantly lie on the body, it will not be so difficult to care for it. A group of crepes now came into fashion, then disappeared from it. These materials were often used to make dresses and trimmings for them; at all times they sewed black mourning bandages and all kinds of shawls. Now it's mostly blouses and suits. One of the most popular representatives of the family is crepe-chiffon material. What are its advantages and disadvantages, how to care for it and what to sew from it?
What is this crepe chiffon fabric?
Chiffon itself is associated with tenderness, lightness, weightlessness. Chiffon dresses always seem to us frivolous and romantic. However, wonderful skirts or blouses come out of this material. The main thing is not to overdo it with the transparency of things that would emphasize your femininity and figure, allowing you to wear chiffon. Crepe chiffon (photo presented in the article)slightly thicker than regular chiffon. It is woven in a crepe pattern, hence the name. A square meter of this silk fabric weighs only thirty-five grams. This, for example, is almost ten times lighter than a meter of crepe-satin. Crepe chiffon is rarely sold bleached - most often dyed in one color or printed, that is, with a pattern. The surface of this fabric is most often matte, but powdered crepe chiffon shines. Often it has neither the front nor the wrong side. It is very pleasant to the touch: thin, light, slips between the fingers. However, crepe chiffon also has disadvantages: it is very difficult to process it, as it is not very obedient when cutting and sewing. For sewing, very thin threads and needles are used, many lines are made with small stitches.
What to sew from crepe chiffon?
You can not resist a transparent dress that will only decorate the girl. In the summer, you simply cannot do without such a thing. But crepe chiffon can also be made to wear at any time of the year and for almost any occasion. The same dress, complemented by thick knitted, textured or smooth tights or stockings and a voluminous sweater, will look quite decent in late autumn. The same applies to the chiffon skirt. A crepe chiffon dress for going out looks spectacular, gentle and elegant. All kinds of shawls, scarves and headbands are also the work of crepe chiffon. Good accessories are obtained with a transparent light ribbon of material: you can string massive beads on it - and a necklace or bracelet is ready! Crepe chiffon lends itself perfectly to drapery. Sowhy not make such a canopy for the bed? Or just not use the canvas as curtains? This will give freshness and chic to your room. In addition, crepe chiffon is very resistant to fading.
How to care for the products?
It should be said that this fabric should be treated with extreme care. So, it is not recommended to wash it yourself. It is better to go to a dry cleaner or wash the product very gently with your hands. Crepe chiffon does not wrinkle well, but if it becomes necessary to iron it, then iron it in the "Silk" mode, best of all - through gauze, with a dry iron. Subject to all the rules, your things will serve you for many years.
Where to buy fabric?
You can still find high-quality fabric. If you want bleached crepe chiffon, you will have to look for it longer. Online stores offer a wide selection, where you can purchase a canvas at a price of six hundred rubles per square meter.
