Perhaps many have heard of Halloween, Mother's Day, St. Valentine, which has long been celebrated not only in the UK, but also far beyond its borders. However, not everyone knows about such an interesting and "delicious" holiday as Apple Day, which is celebrated annually on October 21 in Britain.

History of occurrence

Even in ancient times, the first apple trees were brought to the island of Albion by the Romans. After that, they began to actively grow this crop and develop new varieties. It's hard to imagine the UK today without beautiful flowering apple and other orchards.

However, the creation of the European Union opened up the English market for agricultural products from European countries, and the demand for local apples fell sharply. It was then that, at the initiative of the English charitable organization Common Ground, back in 1990, the first Apple Day was organized in the UK. And although the holiday received an “apple” name, its goal is to support all domestic products of horticultural agriculture. The fruit itself has become a kind of symbolthe diversity of all world aspects and proof that a person is able to independently influence his own destiny (biblical Eve and the “forbidden fruit”).

How is Apple Day celebrated in the UK?

Folk festivals are held annually with a thematic apple bias and elements of a fair. Perhaps this is the only day of the year when not only the citizens of the country, but also any guest of foggy Albion have a unique opportunity to try more than 1200 different varieties of apples, most of which cannot be bought in stores.

Also on the Day of the Apple holiday, everyone can purchase seedlings of rare varieties to grow them in their own garden or on a house plot. Novice gardeners-amateurs will be able to get advice on issues of interest to them from leading expert apple growers for free.

On the Day of the Apple, chefs come to the places of large fair festivities to demonstrate their culinary skills. And then vacationers have the opportunity to try dozens of various apple dishes, both hot and cold. Particularly lucky ones can even get hold of a couple of interesting recipes, which they will later surprise their friends with. You can also participate in various interesting competitions: archery at apples or peeling an apple (so that the peeled peel is as long as possible).

World Apple Day

And although officially there is no such holiday, but the "apple addiction" from the subjects of the English crown is successfulpicked up by the people of the United States of America. They only celebrate Apple Day on February 20.

The Russian Federation, Ukraine and other Slavic countries annually celebrate Harvest Day, which is quite similar to the British holiday. On this day, it is customary to organize fairs where you can buy agricultural products at a very profitable price and participate in fun contests.
