Rosella parrots are medium-sized birds. This is a whole genus, which is divided into several species. The most popular is the variegated rosella, but there are also penate, palehead, northern, Tasmanian rosella and others.

Rosella - parrots are very bright and colorful. Birds have distinctive spots on their cheeks, back, and they also have a long tail. It grows up to 18-30 cm. They live 15-20 years, sometimes even more. They are not considered “talkers”, but these birds are very fond of singing. Habitat

In the wild, they live on the offshore islands of Australia. Rosella parrots gather in small flocks, mostly 20-50 individuals, but sometimes even more. They try to stay closer to pastures, rare shrubs, farmlands, less often they can be found in squares and parks. Farmers do not favor them - rosellas can cause a lot of trouble and destroy entire lands. Birds eat a variety of greens, flowers, grass seeds, nuts, berries and insect larvae.

Reproduction

Rosella parrots can fly, but still on the groundthey spend most of their time. Birds dexterously move through grassy thickets. Researchers claim that just this species loves to eat, holding pieces in its paw. They become sexually mature at 12-14 months. The female most often has 5 chicks, but sometimes their number ranges from four to eight. Parrots build nests in hollow trees or stumps, while the female incubates the eggs, the male gets her food. Chicks are born in 18-20 days. Little rosellas become independent at the age of eight weeks.

Domestic rosellas are fed with special grain mixtures for medium parrots, which are sold at the pet store. Also, fresh fruits and vegetables should be included in their daily diet. The water in the drinker needs to be changed every day.

You can give the birds worms, but if this option is unacceptable, then you should offer them a finely chopped hard-boiled egg several times a week. They also eat homemade cheese well.
