The most common breed of small dogs is the German Spitz. Its ancient descendant is considered to be a peat dog, which, according to scientists, lived in the Stone Age. Unfortunately, whether this information is true or not is anyone's guess.

Spitz are small breed dogs. They can be of different colors - from white to black, from cream to orange and mixed. The White Spitz is the most common breed. But often there are those who have along the entire lengthwool scattered spots (black, gray, red and brown). In the latter case, black and white Spitz is in great demand.

A dog of this breed is very loyal to its owner. White German Spitz will never miss a single stranger. She will immediately notify you of danger with her loud barking.

What Spitz looks like

This dog is unique. If you mentally place it in a square box, then you will see that the height of the withers of the pet is the same as the length of its body. The exception is the dwarf white Pomeranian.

By themselves, these are small fluffy pets with a pronounced crested tail upright, located directly above the back, and a small mane, like a lion. A black nose and dark eyes on a small muzzle look very expressive. The exception is brown Spitz. Their noses are the same color as their fur.

White German Spitz, like all types of this breed, does not have a single fold on the muzzle. His small triangle ears are always turned up. Their small paws are somewhat reminiscent of cats.

Due to small parameters, the movements of this dog are smooth and easy. It can often give the impression that she barely touches the ground as she runs.

With his playfulness and appearance, the Spitz always brings a smile to the faces of people around him.

This dog breed is easy to train. They easily become attached to people and always obey their master.

There are a few rules to follow when feeding a Pomeranian.

First of all, you must remember that if you choose a puppy, then without fail he needs to eat the food that he ate in the kennel. If you want to change the diet of his diet, then you need to do it gradually. This is the only way the puppy will safely switch to a new food.

Secondly, whether it is a white Pomeranian or another species of this breed, it must be fed daily with meat, which will provide its body with useful substances and vitamins. In addition, the daily amount of this product should be at least 1/5 of the dog's weight. Do not forget about milk and cottage cheese.

Thirdly, this breed of dogdoes not accept vegetables. Therefore, they must be reduced to a minimum, and in some cases to zero.

Fourth, in no case should the dog's diet include non-natural products (for example, chips or sausage), flour products, pasta. All this can contribute to improper metabolism, which further threatens the pet with obesity. And Spitz, like no other dog, is easily exposed to it.

Fifth, food portions should be small. It is mandatory for the owner to adhere to a clear feeding schedule.

Varieties of Spitz

To date, 5 types of Spitz have been bred:

1. Wolfspitz, or Keeshond. This name comes from the English word "wolf", which means "wolf" in Russian. This type of Spitz was so named, as they are very similar to wolves. The largest dogs reach a height at the withers up to 46 centimeters. Usually these are gray animals, very often with multi-colored spots on the sides.
2. Grossspitz, or large German Spitz, the largest representative of this breed. It grows up to 50 centimeters at the withers and is usually white in color. This was achieved by scientists about 20 years ago. Grossspitz originally had red or black hair.
3. Mittelspitz. This is a medium-sized dog, reaching a maximum of 38 cm. In addition to white dogs, today you can find reddish, gray and black. The white and red Spitz is the most common variant of this species.
4. Klanspitz or Small German Spitz. It grows from 23 to 29 centimeters at the withers. As a rule, these are small dogs of gray, white orshades of red.
5. White Pomeranian. It is distinguished by its diminutiveness. Its height at the withers is from 18 to 22 centimeters. They look like little bear cubs that will melt the hearts of even the most gloomy people.

General Spitz care

White Pomeranian, like all other species of this breed, lives for a long time (up to 20 years). But in order for the pet to be he althy and please with its endless energy, it is necessary to properly care for it.

First of all, you must understand that this dog requires a lot of attention, and it is very attached to its owner. Therefore, it should never be left alone for a long time. Otherwise, the dog will be very bored without communication, thus, her psyche will be disturbed.

Secondly, the white Spitz should be provided with enough time on the walk, where he can throw out his emotions and frolic in the fresh air.

Third, do not forget to get the necessary vaccinations on time and visit the vet.

Grooming white dogs

As we have already said, the Spitz is a rather fluffy breed of dog, but it is quite easy to care for its coat. To do this, bathe your pet as it gets dirty and comb the coat once every about seven days. For bathing, use high-quality shampoos specifically for long-haired dog breeds. If a spitz develops tangles, which is unlikely in a he althy dog, in no case should they be pulled out. To do this, you will need a special detangling tool and a little time. Gently spread the "ball" with your fingers, then comb through.

Caring for nails, eyes, ears and teeth of a Spitz

Spitz also needs to cut his claws. It's not worth missing out. Otherwise, there is a possibility of damage to the finger or inflammation.

Often, light dogs have very watery eyes. In order to remove the discharge, it is necessary to wipe the eyes with a cotton swab previously moistened with a special solution.

The ears of a Spitz, like any other dog, are cleaned as they get dirty. It is worth noting that this should be done both outside and inside the auricle. If during this procedure the dog experiences pain, then this is a reason to contact the veterinarian.

Pygmy Pomeranian whites are prone to tartar formation, which causes not only aesthetic discomfort, but also internal, periodontal disease and even tooth loss.

How to train a Spitz

White Spitz easily follows the commands of the owner, if it is properly trained. Of course, train the dogneeded as soon as possible. To do this, do everything possible so that he gets used to you, his master: feed, water, walk and caress him yourself. Don't let strangers do it all for you.

A black and white Spitz (or another type of this breed) should know his place well. Since in the future he should follow the “place” command exactly there. In order for him to find out where his corner is, you need to bring him to his rug a couple of times a day and say “place”. Thus, after a short time, the dog will understand what exactly this command means.

In order to avoid problems during the walk, the Pomeranian must master the “near” command. Teach him to walk only on one side of you. At the same time, his shoulder blades should be at the level of your legs. If the dog lags behind or runs forward, pull his leash a little towards you and say: “Next!”

A dog should have its own leash, which fully corresponds to its height and weight. With it, you will teach your pet also the commands “lie down”, “sit”. To do this, you need to pull the reins in the right direction. For example, if you tell your dog to “down”, then you are pulling the leash down towards the ground.

Another basic command is the "fu" command. In order for the puppy to understand its meaning, put treats near it and, when the pet runs towards them, command “fu”. In case of disobedience, hit the dog a little with a twig. It is very important to use this item here.
