You need to know the theoretical foundations of how to connect an RCD.
Safety
The symbol "RCD" should be understood as a "residual current device". This device is designed to reduce tenfold the risk of electric shock in the event of a malfunction with wiring or electrical appliances.
The principle of its operation is incredibly simple: there is a comparison of the value of the currents in two lines: incoming to the consumer and outgoing to the external wiring. There must be equality between them. AtIf a difference (leakage) occurs, a shutdown occurs. In other words, if, for example, the heating element of an electric boiler is damaged, and the water will be at a dangerous potential, the RCD will detect the leakage to the “ground”, turn off the circuit and prevent a possible tragedy. Of course, a certain amount of losses is acceptable, which must be taken into account when choosing the nominal values of the device. However, for the circuit to work, you should figure out how to connect the RCD.
Installation location
The placement of this device depends on which section of the circuit is planned to be protected. If we are talking about installation for the whole apartment, then the masters who know how to connect the RCD usually offer a shield next to the meter - the meter. This is the most optimal, since it is in this place that the beginning of the intra-apartment wiring is located.
But if you need to protect a certain electrical appliance, you must first choose a convenient place near it, where to mount the base box. Next, you need to perform the necessary wiring according to the scheme. How to connect an RCD
Please note that a simple disconnect device and a circuit breaker are two different things. For example, if a short circuit occurs between the conductors in the section of the circuit connected to the device, the RCD will not turn off, since the value of the currents in the conductors will be equal (the value, as we see, is not controlled). SoThus, the most important thing is how to connect the RCD - the circuit. That is, it is useful to first draw what, how and where will be mounted. The RCD is always installed after the machine, and the limiting current of the latter should not be more than that of the protective device in question. The exception is diffuse automata, which combine both devices in a single case.
Contacts-outputs of the RCD have the appropriate designations, indicating where to connect the phase, and where - the neutral conductor (N). On outgoing lines, this order is not fundamental. If a grounding conductor is provided in the wiring, then it does not start in the RCD. It does not affect the performance of the device. To summarize: there are no "hidden" features in the connection. For a two-wire network, 4 contacts are involved: phase and zero for supply, and 2 for load (outgoing line).
