This is a short-haired, artificially bred breed, obtained by crossing an Asian wild leopard cat with a domestic one. The first, outdated name of the breed is leopardette. Today, this breed is one of the most sought after, and therefore one of the most expensive.

American Jane Sugen bought a wild Asian cat in Taiwan in 1961, named her Malaysia and brought her to the US, where she grew up with a domestic black cat. In 1963, the cat couple had offspring - the kitty KinKin. At the time, it seemed like a miracle, and Jane decided to create a domestic cat breed that would look like a wild animal.

In 1983, a leopard cat (Bengal) was registered with TICA, and in 1985, Bengal cats were first presented at an exhibition, where they made a splash among connoisseurs.

Today the breed is fairly widespread in the US with approximately 9,000 representatives, and more than 60 individuals in the Jane Sugen (Mill) kennel.

In our country, domesticThe leopard cat is just starting to catch on. But there are already several catteries that have been breeding Bengal cats since 1997.

Leopard cat (Bengal) is a fairly large animal. An adult cat weighs 5-6 kg, a cat - about 4 kg. The body of the animal is muscular, strong, flexible, slightly elongated in length. Cats are slimmer and more graceful than cats. Strong muscular legs, with the hind legs much longer than the front. Large and rounded paws. Massive head with a wide muzzle and expressive almond-shaped eyes. Short, shiny, thick and silky coat.

A leopard cat can have a different color: against the background of shades of brown, a distinct brown or black pattern, spotted or marbled on a golden background - these shades are recognized as the standard. Bengals have two types of patterns - spotted and marbled.

Leopard cats are a breed that has very rare, original colors. For example, seal-links (snow leopard). Against an almost white background, spots from reddish to black contrast sharply. More recently, a third color has been officially adopted - blue (silver). The breed is now considered fully developed.

Bengals usually have good he alth, they are very neat, clean. The leopard cat is an active animal. For games, she needs a spacious room. They are great jumpers, they love water very much and swim with pleasure even in an ordinary bath. They enjoy walking down the street on a leash.
