Neptune Day: we organize a fun holiday for children

Neptune's Day is a cheerful and bright summer holiday. It is celebrated in he alth camps, kindergartens, sanatoriums, resort towns and on passenger ships. The history of the holiday is connected with the ancient traditions of sailors who tried to appease the sea lord and ask him for a fair wind when crossing the equator. Before that, Neptune forced recruits to pass a test, which necessarily included dousing with water.

Celebration traditions

In Soviet times, Neptune Day began to be widely celebrated in pioneer camps. It was held in the middle of summer or separately for each shift of vacationing children. The main hero of the holiday is the lord of the seas and rivers - Neptune. His retinue can be mermaids, devils, fish, frogs, pirates, kikimores, mermen.

For children on Neptune's holiday, sports competitions or relay races are usually arranged. The performance must include swimming in the pondor dousing all those present with water from buckets, watering cans, mugs, and so on. Therefore, such entertainment is held on a hot day.

Neptune Day Scenarios

There are several options for the development of the plot, which are used by the organizers of the holiday:

1. Neptune Cup competition. This is the simplest option, when children are divided into teams and invited to participate in sports competitions.
2. Search for a stolen character or item. In this case, a theatrical performance is played out in front of the children. They have to save Neptune, kidnapped by devils. Or find a stolen trident, a lost little mermaid, a pirate treasure. To do this, you must pass the tests offered by fairy-tale heroes.
3. Sea voyage around the islands. Children are divided into teams and handed out route sheets. Moving along the indicated points, they perform the tasks of fairy-tale heroes related to the water theme. For their efforts, they can be rewarded with tokens in the form of pearls, shells, starfish or fish. The winners are awarded a sweet prize (ice cream, lemonade) at the central point.

Water contests

What kind of activities can be offered to children on Neptune Day in the camp? If there is a reservoir nearby (river, sea, pool), most of the competitions are held in it. Of course, the organizers should take care of the safety of the participants of the competition.

So, offer the children the following games:

• Fairy tale characters scatter inflatable toys over the surface of the pond. They need to be collectedcompeting. The team with the most toys wins.
• Teams bathe in a pond, but on a whistle they must run out of it and line up as quickly as possible by height, foot size, eye color (from light to dark) or the first letter of the name.
• Team members line up in two lines at a distance of 10 meters from each other. They are given an air mattress, on which they need to swim this distance and pass the trophy to the next participant. Swim times are timed.
• Teams line up at arm's length with the captain in front. It is necessary to pass the ball overhead from the first player to the last. When this happens, the participant standing at the end swims to the head of the team, takes a place in front of the captain. The passing of the ball continues until the players are in their starting position. The team that finishes the relay first wins.
• "Captains Contest". On the whistle, you need to slide through the water, lowering your face into it and stretching your arms forward. You can only work with your feet, you can’t get air. The child who swims further than his rivals wins.

Land games

If there is no reservoir nearby, this is not a reason to cancel the holiday of Neptune. The following competitions can be offered to children:

• "Water Carriers". Basins are placed at some distance from each other: one empty, the other with water. It is necessary for a certain time to fill an empty container with liquid, transferring it in a spoon. The team with the most water wins.
• "Guess it." With their eyes closed, children feel for an object in the water and determine what it is.
• "Get the apple." Their basin of water needs to pull out an apple without helping themselves with their hands.
• "Your wetness". Team members wear T-shirts and receive water bottles with holes in the cork. Task: to pour each other. The liquid from the T-shirts is then squeezed into a basin. The team that gets wet most wins.
• "Bumps". Paper circles are laid out at a distance, you need to cross the swamp along them without stumbling. To make the task more difficult, you can put flippers on children.
• "The smartest". Teams take turns calling the inhabitants of the reservoirs. You can't repeat. The team that names the last inhabitant wins.

End of the holiday

The finale of Neptune's Day should be bright and memorable. It is difficult to imagine it without general dousing or bathing under the leadership of a fabulous retinue. And, of course, the results of competitions should be summed up, well-deserved prizes awarded.

In the conditions of the camp, the awarding can be postponed until the evening disco. Offer children to dress up in costumes of marine life or fairy-tale characters, hold a competition for the most original outfit.

Neptune Day is a fun holiday during which children improve their motor skills and improve their he alth. The task of adults is to make it exciting, joyful and as safe as possible for their wards.
