Volzhsky City Day is celebrated on July 22, this year it turns only 62 years old. For a city, such a gap is nothing, but it already has many glorious pages.

Why July 22?

On this day, the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR was published, by which the village of Volzhsky was given the status of a city. However, people have lived in this place since the 7th century, as evidenced by archaeological finds.

The Day of the city of Volzhsky in our time is celebrated annually with a variety of local events with their own flavor. The middle of summer, which falls on a memorable date, provides an opportunity to have a good rest and have fun.

What was before the city?

Initially, the tribes of the Golden Horde lived here, while earthworks still find household items of those times. Archaeologists claim that many trade routes crossed on the site of the city.

In the 18th century, the Spirit merchant tried to arrange amulberry farm, accepted for this runaway peasants from all over Russia and gave them the status of state-owned. The merchant did not achieve success, but runaway people continued to come, eventually forming the village of Bezrodnoye. Cossacks and other servicemen came here, responding to the call of the Serbian lieutenant Parobich. The silk factory was still opened here. It happened under Catherine II.

In 1917, the population of the settlement was 20 thousand people, and it was increasingly called the Volzhsky village. Volzhsky City Day began to be celebrated 37 years later.

Great neighbor

Along with the name Bezrodnoe, another name is often mentioned - Verkhnyaya Akhtuba. The village has always been a neighbor of the largest city - at first Tsaritsyn, successively renamed Stalingrad and Volgograd. The neighborhood largely determined the fate of the city.

After the October Revolution, not all residents accepted the new government. There were both Soviet activists and the White Guards who opposed them. There were real local battles of the Civil War. In memory of these events, there is a monument on the mass grave, the dates are engraved on it: 1918 and 1942.

The day of the city of Volzhsky is celebrated on a grand scale also because during the Battle of Stalingrad the village was destroyed almost to the ground, not a single whole residential building remained. Residents left - some for evacuation, some for the front.

Stalingrad HPP

The real day of the city of Volzhsky came in 1951, when they began to build a hydroelectric power station. They built a large residential building for those who came to the construction site. Firstthe inhabitants were power engineers, engineers and simple builders. The hydroelectric power station grew, and with it the number of inhabitants increased.

In 1954, the population of the village reached 30 thousand. Not only residential buildings were erected, but also schools, hospitals, shops. Volzhsky City Day is counted from this year, after the well-known decree.

Memorable places

The only old building that has survived to this day is a school built in 1881. Today it houses an art gallery. There used to be a school here. Later, the city government was located here, and during the war years - a hospital. Nearby is a mass grave: many defenders of Stalingrad died of wounds.

The modern city consists of 42 quarters, in which more than 320 thousand people live. There are 3 hydroelectric power stations, more than 20 enterprises of ferrous metallurgy, chemical and machine-building industries, more than 12 - light and food. In terms of output, the city ranks 58th in the country. Less than 1% unemployed. The local HPP is the largest in Europe.

Lenin Square is considered to be the central one. The Volga City Day is celebrated here. That is, the holiday begins here, smoothly moving to the banks of the Akhtuba or to the park.

Fountain Street got its name from the first fountain. Now there are several fountains, the most beautiful street, goes from the Palace Square to the river. On the same street there is a monument to the builders of the hydroelectric power station in the form of a tetrahedron. These blocks blocked the Volga.

There is a year-round water park, great restaurants and nightclubs. And also - large shopping complexes, in which store chains are located.

The charm of a young city

The age of the city is quite small, even the old part is called areas built in the 50s of the last century. Nevertheless, he creates his beautiful story every day. The day of the city of Volzhsky is celebrated annually. What date the holiday will take place is set by the city administration. Usually the event is tied to the weekend.

The city is located between the Volga and Akhtuba rivers, the climate here is mild. In winter it is rarely below 8 degrees, and summer lasts 4 months, there is heat up to 30 degrees. The disadvantage of these places is the constant wind.

All visitors are struck by the architectural completeness and regularity of city buildings. The streets are straight, the squares are wide, the number of storeys of buildings is in harmony with the landscape. No wonder in 2004 the city was recognized as the best (with a population of up to 500 thousand) in the country. Trees and shrubs have been planted to protect against dust and winds, and almost the entire city is considered a green zone.
