Bank twine is a nondescript yellowish-brown or gray thin rope that can be found on the shelves of highly specialized or specialized stores. It has a rather loud and respectable name, but what does a simple twine have to do with the financial system, and also, why would it be useful for every person to get twine?
What is twine?
Checking with encyclopedic sources, you can easily find out that a strong thread, consisting of twisted fibers, with a thickness of 1 to 2.5 mm is called twine. It is produced by joining together two or three thinner wires made from natural or synthetic components. Bank twine is traditionally a linen thread, however, other bast plants are used at least for its manufacture. Among them is an annual spinning crop native to the Asian subtropics called jute.
A distinctive characteristic of twine is its high strength: to break the thinthread with bare hands, without using any improvised means, you need to have truly heroic strength. Depending on the thickness and composition, this unsightly twine has a breaking load of 7 kgf (paper twine), 13-20 kgf (linen twine) or 30-100 kgf (polished twine).
And so, and so, and without it, nothing
Twine is actually used everywhere, most often, as a thin, but strong and reliable rope, indispensable in the household. It is not for nothing that many summer residents and flower growers have chosen it - it is convenient to tie shrubs and other vegetation with twine.
Bank twine is also indispensable for corporate organizations, this thread is used to tie collection bags (hence the name "bank"), documentation, various kinds of parcels and goods. Strong twine will not break by itself, and valuable packages are sealed with wax seals for greater reliability.
An additional advantage is the cost of such packaging material as twine. The price per skein varies from 75 (a small bobbin, in which the threads are no more than 150 m) to 500 rubles (a bobbin of 600-700 m). There are also skeins of medium size on sale - 200-300 meters each, their cost fluctuates in the range of 200-300 rubles. It is worth noting that polished bank twine costs a little more than linen or jute, but the price is higher due to the fact that it is sold in large skeins, on which segments with a minimum length of 100 m are wound, most often, their footage is calculated in thousand values. For onesuch a reel will have to be paid on average 80 (125 m), 1250 (2200 m) or 1400 rubles (5000 m).
The essence is the same, but the nature?
So, twine, as we found out, is the most diverse. First of all, it differs in its composition. There is twine single-component or mixed, however, in the second case, the thread consists of different fibers of plant origin, but without synthetic impurities.
White, polypropylene thread is not natural twine. It is reliable, strong and durable, not subject to rotting or drying out. It is used as an auxiliary material for packing or wrapping parcels, goods and other cargo that needs to be transported.
Natural twine (linen or jute), in addition to strength, also has the following characteristics:
- sustainable;
- durability;
- low thermal conductivity.
Linen thread is more expensive than jute thread at cost. This is largely due to the fact that jute is a cheap raw material, its production has been established very high quality and on a large scale. This parameter is important, first of all, for construction, because twine is often used to insulate crowns in wooden log cabins. The consumption of this material in this area is high, and therefore manufacturers offer twine of mixed composition, in which flax fibers are combined with jute. However, bank twine is predominantly a one-component linen thread of various thicknesses.
Practical application
As it was saida little higher, bank twine is successfully used in a number of the most diverse spheres of human life. First of all, it is a good packaging material. Linen fiber has an amazing ability to instantly absorb moisture, while the threads dry quickly, they are not to the taste of various pests, such as moths, bacteria or fungus.
The environmental friendliness of bank twine allows it to be used even in food production. To be more precise, it is wrapped around meat and fish products during their baking or smoking.
Thin twine is rarely used in construction, to insulate joints more often use a special caulk, tow or tourniquet, this must be taken into account when choosing twine, since there are quite a few varieties of twisted rope made of plant fibers. Twine is also called a rope of impressive thickness, which will be difficult to find use in ordinary household use.
Rope, winding
Well, and another area of application of bank twine, which cannot be mentioned just in passing, is needlework. This thread only at first glance looks rather unpresentable, due to its fibrous structure, natural color, which can be in brown and gray tones, it is very often used in several directions of hand-made.
The twine is soft and pliable, it holds its shape well, it is easy to twist knots and make shapes out of it, in addition, it shows itself well in contact with adhesives, which makes it possible to reliablyfix compositions, the basis or details of which are the described thread. Thanks to these qualities, macrame crafts are made from linen twine; it is an indispensable material for braiding decorative vases, pots, bottles and jars. Craftsmen make amazing souvenirs, magnets, Christmas decorations and even jewelry out of it.
