The 21st century is replete with weapons of mass destruction: nuclear bombs, viral diseases, hazardous emissions into the environment. Each country has special services that protect ordinary residents from threats of this kind - the troops of radiation, biological and chemical protection.

Day of the RKhBZ Troops is one of the military festivals, it is held annually in Russia and Ukraine. This is an integral part of the long-term formation of the defense of both countries, which would be powerless without NBC protection specialists.

RCBZ troops in the history of Tsarist, Soviet and modern Russia

During the 1st World War, a new branch of the army was formed, specializing in protection against poisonous substances, as well as in the use of flamethrowers. According to historical documents, the Russian Imperial Army for the period from 1915 to 1918 already had at its disposal 15 separate special forces units, namely chemical companies.

During the Great Patriotic War, soldiers and specialists of the RCB protection participated inmilitary operations, awards for the accuracy of the execution of orders received more than 40 units, 22 military chemists were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

Day of the RKhBZ Troops has not undergone any changes since the creation of chemical brigades for more than 100 years in Russia. According to order No. 220, issued by the Rosvoinovet of the Republic in 1918 on November 13, a new chemical service of the Red Army was formed. After 74 years, in 1992, the chemical troops were renamed the RCB-protection troops.

Throughout history, the Day of the RCBZ Troops in Russia has been celebrated annually. At this time, people who stand guard over the he alth and safety of citizens are honored. The catastrophe in Chernobyl, which occurred in April 1986 on the territory of the Ukrainian SSR, required the most accurate and quick actions from many government agencies. The main work to eliminate the consequences of the explosion of a nuclear reactor was carried out by the military personnel of the RKhBZ regiments. At that time, 10 battalions were involved, which subsequently discovered and localized contaminated land. The military participated in the operation to rescue people from the explosion site, and also helped to install a sarcophagus over the smoldering reactor.

The main specialization of troops of this kind is to prevent the occurrence of biological, radiation and chemical attacks, to eliminate the consequences of their impact. Soldiers study and assess the state of the environment, camouflage equipment, and use weapons if necessary.

November 13 is the Day of the RCBZ Troops celebrated in Russia. In 2015, the troops of this designation celebrated 97 years since their formation. The most memorable holiday in honor of military chemists was held on November 13, 2013 - it was the 95th anniversary date. The professional holiday was approved in 2006, on May 31, after the signing of the corresponding decree by the President of the Russian Federation.

Day of the RKhBZ Troops February 14 is celebrated in Ukraine. Over the 16 years since the organization of separate special units, the military personnel of the Ukrainian RCB protection have successfully participated in many operations. For example, in rescuing the crew of the ship "Odisk", located in the Black Sea. The operational actions of the RKhBZ soldiers helped to quickly eliminate gas emissions from the toxic cargo.
