Especially popular today is such a breed of cats as the British. Its correct name is "British Shorthair", but the abbreviated affectionate nickname most fully characterizes pets of this kind.

People are attracted primarily by the pretty appearance of these animals. And in fact, if you look at the breeds of cats with photographs, when you look at the representatives of the "British" lips stretch themselves in a smile: they are very similar to teddy bears. And their dense thick short coat is a hallmark that most clearly distinguishes them from the species. Another such feature is their coloring. The British cat breed boasts a wide range of coat shades. The most popular of them is the so-called "whiskas" - light gray with darker stripes, widely known for advertising the feed of the same name, as well as purple, blue, red. Especially rare colors of this breed are golden and ticked golden - there are not too many such cats in our country. But with might and main there are other colors - from plain to tricolor, tabby (striped), two-coloror color-point (the so-called "Siamese"). All of them are attractive in their own way and find their fans.

The British cat breed has a very calm and balanced character. In this they completely repeat the stiffness and ceremony of the representatives of the nation that gave the name to these animals. There is sometimes a feeling that if the "British" could speak, they would definitely demand tea at 5 pm, as is customary in Foggy Albion. They are very balanced and sometimes even slow. So if you want a nimble pet who will happily run towards you when you get home and turn the whole house over in his games, this is not your cat. The British are very kind by nature, but not too tame and sociable. They can sleep peacefully on your lap or next to you, but don't expect too much affection from them.

The content of the British cat breed is quite simple. Of the features of caring for them, it should be noted the obligatory maintenance of wool in good condition by combing and regular washing with special shampoos. It should also be remembered that this breed, like Persians and Exotics, has closely spaced tear ducts due to a short nose, which means that their eyes require careful care. They must be washed with special lotions or a weak solution of chamomile and cleaned of dirt. The diet of the British should be chosen from two options: either provide them with a natural diet,including boiled chicken meat and vegetables, as well as sour-milk products, or choose a good factory-made food, since many brands have types specially designed for this breed.

And finally: in advertisements for the sale of kittens, you can often find the wording "British Fold cat breed". Photos of such animals are similar to the classic representatives of the British Shorthair, with the exception of funny hanging ears. These are the so-called Scottish Fold cats, or Scottish Folds, as felinologists call them. They have common roots, with proper breeding in Scots, one of the parents will definitely be a representative of the British breed, but still, many international organizations distinguish them as a separate species. So let's not confuse them with each other.
