Many people who have worked diligently all their lives are eligible to receive the title of "Veteran of Labor". The first medal appeared in 1974. Then the one who received such an award automatically acquired the corresponding title. That is, he was awarded the rank of labor veteran of the entire USSR.
20 years later, in 1995, the federal law "On Veterans" was adopted. He played an important role in history. Since then getting"Veteran of Labour" became an event of Russian scale. Why do you need the title of "Veteran of Labor"?
The fact is that thanks to him, a person has a lot of benefits. Each region separately establishes certain privileges for labor veterans in accordance with their capabilities.

- free travel on any type of public transport;
- 50% off all utilities;
- Manufacture of dentures for teeth is free of charge (except for gold ones);
- cash compensation for paying telephone bills;
- provision of free vouchers to various he alth resorts located in any part of the Russian Federation;
- receiving the corresponding title.
Federal or regional?
Until 2005, the award was given on behalf offederal authority. However, after the law of August 22, 2004, this changed. The people called the new provision “the abolition of benefits.”
Now Veteran of Labour's registration takes place at the regional level, as a result of which such people have become regional beneficiaries, and not nationwide.
Therefore, after 2005, the procedure and conditions under which this title is awarded are determined by the subjects of the Russian Federation. In addition, they establish measures to support veterans from a social point of view.
However, among the all-Russian beneficiaries there were people who went through the war: disabled people, heroes of the Union, Russia, blockade. Payments for them are made from the federal budget.
To regional beneficiaries, in addition to labor veterans, include victims of political repression, home front workers and others. Their situation is worse than the federal ones. Currently, they are under the auspices of regional entities. This is where the amount of compensation is determined. The amount of the payment depends on the material condition of the area.
It would be fair if regional beneficiaries were again called federal. They would be given a 50% discount on all utilities, which is very important these days. Treatment of such people should be free of charge. They also do not have to pay for public transport. However, after the entry into force of the 2005 law, all these privileges were reduced. Currently, there are approximately 15 million people in the Russian Federation who receive regional beneficiaries. That is why this issue is not resolved, because it can lead to the fact thatThe state will lose a lot of money. However, many regions hardly finance their beneficiaries, as a result of which compensations for them are scanty.
Every area should take care of veterans. This independence received different responses in different regions. In some localities, every second labor veteran “suffered”. In different regions of Russia, the assessment of certain departmental insignia in labor is carried out in different ways. In this case, a lot of disputes arise, which are very difficult to resolve. Some subjects have significantly reduced the list of awards for which a medal can be received. At the same time, in other areas, the category of persons called innovators and inventors is also taken into account.

In addition, they were awarded on behalf of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, despite the fact that the medal was awarded by regional bodies. Therefore, the prosecutors of the districts sent applications to the courts, in which it was indicated that the activities of the departments of social protection of the population were considered illegal. Thus, after a few years, people still received the coveted reward. As you can see, in some cases you have to go a long way to win a medal.
Who is eligible for the award
How to get a "Veteran of Labour", the following categories of workers may be interested and count on a positive result:
- Persons who were awarded orders or medals have certain ranks of the USSR or the Russian Federation, sufficient work experience or insignia.
- Persons who started workinguntil the age of 18 during the war. Their work experience must be at least 45 years for men and 40 for women. Although such people are now, of course, very few.

If it seems to you that you have every chance of getting a medal, then you can do it at a fairly young age. That is, in order to become the owner of the Veteran of Labor award, seniority matters, but if you have the opportunity to receive it without it, you do not need to wait until retirement age. An applicant for a medal must submit an application to the social protection authority. It is issued in the area where the person lives.
Persons with honorary medals, orders and titles of the USSR will definitely be awarded. People with distinctions for good, conscientious work must submit a certificate of work experience. No one can receive awards without a passport and work book.
If the application is approved in your area, then it will be transferred to the executive authority of the Russian Federation. Here they will decide whether you will be awarded the award. If they refuse you, you will know about it. Notification will be sent to your local social security office, after which you will also be informed of the result.
