Toyger cat breed is the youngest in the world. Its name is composed of two words: toy (toy) and tiger (tiger).

From the history of toygers

This breed of domestic cats was bred in 1993 in the USA. The name was given to her by the daughter of the famous breeder Jane Mill, who worked on the creation of Bengal cats - Judy Sugden.

While in India, she noticed a cat on the street that in many ways met her requirements for a new breed. Since 1980, she began active work, and soon achieved success. The toyger cat is bred by selection, the breed is based on the data of Bengal cats. Crossing them with other breeds made it possible to breed kittens with an unusual color - brindle.

In 2006, the Toyler cat was first presented at an exhibition in the status of a new breed. Just a year later (in the spring of 2007), the breed was officially recognized and admitted to the TICA championship. Today it's beautifulgraceful animals, reminiscent of their closest relatives - Bengal cats. This is especially evident in the movements of animals when they rush like real predators, which is typical for "bengals".

In our time, the breed is being "finished". One of the goals of the ongoing work is to create a silver-white color. According to breeders, breeding this breed is troublesome. Pairs must be chosen very carefully so as not to get kittens with too small or too large eyes or "wrong" shaped ears. By the way, today breeders want to slightly reduce the ears of animals and make them more rounded.

External Features

Toyger cat is not yet very common in our country. The description of this "toy tiger" can be found in many publications for cat lovers. The magnificent graceful animal has a heavy tiger look. But this circumstance should not confuse connoisseurs of feline beauty - this look hides the loving kind soul of a true companion.

The toyger cat is a fairly large animal. The weight of an adult varies from 7 to 12 kg. The body of the "domestic tiger" is strong and muscular, slightly elongated. The back of the body is somewhat heavier than the chest. The tail (like that of a tiger) is long, with a black tip, rounded. Paws are strong, with black soft pads. The head is not very large, rather wide, the muzzle is slightly elongated, with eyes wide open, as if surprised. Large nose widens towards the end.

Wool

The toyger cat is famous for its unusual short hair, which has a relief effect. It is created thanks to the longer hairs of a dark color. To the touch it is elastic, dense and soft. The collar, a thicker coat on the temples and cheekbones, is recognized as a breed trait. In addition, a slight overflow of coat is welcome, unless, of course, it “lubricates” the color.

Dark hairs should be dyed evenly. Dark gray may be included in the undercoat.

Color

The main external feature that distinguishes the toyger cat from other cats is the unique tabby stripes. They can be from yellow-brown, brown to almost black. The coat is not ticked - all the stripes are completely dark - from the very tips to the skin. The undercoat is allowed in a mouse or dark gray color, the main background is in some cases highlighted, but always monophonic.

An important feature of the color is the contrast of colors. It should be maximum: between the background color and tabby stripes, the main color of the belly and back, darker ears inside and light outside. The coat pattern is a modified tabby mackerel. The stripes located on the body are always vertical, closing in rings on the paws, tail and neck. They can be braided and uneven.

Elongated spots are allowed as standard. But the drawing must certainly be on the inside of the paws and on the stomach. Paw pads and tail tip are black. On the muzzle the stripes are circular. Wool aroundeyes are lighter. It is very similar to white glasses. A characteristic feature that the toyger cat has is a butterfly-shaped mark on the forehead, almost black liner of the lips, eyes and the base of the mustache.

The color should not have clear parallel stripes, spots or circles. A stripe along the spine is also unacceptable - the back of the cat must be darkened, without a pattern.

Character

Some inexperienced owners may be alerted by the unusual predatory appearance that the toyger has. Cats, whose character is distinguished by benevolence and complaisance, have the ability to adapt to life in the pack, which for them is the owner's family. These are surprisingly sociable, loving, playful and "talkative" animals. They are not subject to dominance over people, are excellent friends with children, protect babies.

Many owners note that the toyger cat has a very valuable quality - it is never overly intrusive. She loves to be in the company of a person, follows him everywhere, but one look is enough for a smart pet to understand that the owner wants to be alone. Do not seek to impose your affection on the toyger.

"Tigers" rarely meow, but will purr willingly in response if you pay attention to them. Young animals endure travel quite easily, however, with age they are strongly attached to their home. Toygers are easy to train and train, they quickly understand what can be done and what is strictly forbidden. However, in adolescence, toygers can become amazing manipulators. Adolescents can "naughty" intentionally, but this is not their vindictiveness or malice - in this way, the animal draws attention to itself, demonstrates its viability. With proper upbringing, such a period of "rebellion" passes very quickly, the main thing is to provide your pet with the opportunity to release irrepressible energy.

These wonderful cats are suitable for people who do not have time for systematic daily care of the animal. Toygers need classic care - the most suitable food for your pet, occasionally combing the coat with a special brush. In addition, we must not forget about brushing your teeth, trimming your nails.

Specialists believe that in the course of selection, toygers have lost the instinct to find a trace. Therefore, try not to lose the little "tiger" because he will not be able to find his way home on his own.
