“My native country is wide, there are many forests, fields and rivers in it …” And also streams, lakes, seas - in a word, a whole lot of water bodies where you can go fishing. It is not surprising that in our country almost every man loves fishing, and many women will also not refuse to sit with a fishing rod by the water.

Another thing is those for whom fishing is not just a hobby, but the main occupation. Fishing is a large industrial sector, which includes catching fish for a variety of purposes. Let's talk about those who are engaged in important and necessary work. About those whose holiday is Fisherman's Day. And let's dive into the history of this day.

Fisherman's Day in Russia was created precisely as a professional holiday. But soon it began to be celebrated by all those who consider themselves to be members of the brotherhood of lovers to pick up a fishing rod in the early foggy morning. There is no specific date for this day, it is celebrated every second Sunday in hot July.

The saying that a fisherman is twice a sailor is one hundred percent true! After all, in their entire lives, fishermen travel so many miles on a boat, raise so many catches from the depths of the river or sea that they cannot be counted. And professionals do spend three times more time on the water than on land. With particular pride they celebrate the Fisherman's Day holiday - especially those whofor whom this activity is family.

The official celebration of this day began in 1989, after approval by the Soviet Presidium. However, many do not agree with this. The profession of a fisherman is very ancient and universal - even the World Fisherman's Day exists! Although in Russia it is special. After all, it was in our country that for a long time there was the largest and most numerous fishing fleet, it was we who occupied the first place in this industry among all other countries. Therefore, the fishermen began to celebrate their holiday much earlier.

How was Fisherman's Day celebrated? Gala evenings were held at each fishing base, the best fishermen received letters of commendation, cash prizes, memorable gifts. Every ship anchored in the port raised all the flags. And on one or more ships, excursions were usually held for everyone who wanted to immerse themselves in fishing life.

Since the second half of the 70s, in Russia, the Day of the Fisherman has been combined with another event - the holiday of the Sea. As a result, it turned out to be almost a whole week full of various thematic events. Fun fairs were opened where one could buy skillful products of folk craftsmen. Beer flowed like a river, dishes of national cuisine could be tasted on every corner. Part of the holiday was, of course, musical accompaniment - in the form of concert performances by groups for a variety of tastes. And the culmination was a large-scale carnival procession, on land and water. These activitiesvaried, depending on the city, but everywhere they were different and very beautiful.

And what can be said about the production of anglers? It so happened that in recent decades, the percentage of fish consumption by the population of our country has fallen dramatically. If earlier a Soviet citizen ate an average of 20 kilograms of this most valuable product per year, today this figure has dropped to 12 kilograms across the country, and in fact it is even less.

Of course, you can't blame the fishermen for this. But the leadership of the industry should pay attention to the state of affairs in the country, listen to the problems and needs of fishermen. Well, we wish these brave, patient, hardworking people good luck and worthy catches. Happy Holidays to you!
