Familiar and so controversial flower has long won the hearts of European and Western brides. But until the end of the 90s, it was rare to find a wedding bouquet of carnations at domestic marriage ceremonies.

Now that modern floristry has appreciated the beauty of flower arrangements called Dianthus, many brides choose carnations not only as the basis for the bouquet, but also for decorating the interior of the banquet.

Often, boutonnieres are decorated with flowers, which are attached to ribbons and tied around the bridesmaid's wrists. Agree that the plant surprisingly resembles delicate lace. After all, it was not for nothing that the wise Greeks called it "the flower of Zeus".

4 reasons to choose carnations

  1. Have a beautiful appearance. Luxurious buds allow you to create not only combinations with other plants, but also chic mono-bouquets.
  2. Different in the ability to keep their freshness for a long time.
  3. Available all year round, so they can be used for wedding ceremonies at any time.
  4. Have a delicate fragrance, which is considered a big plus for brides,intolerant of strong odors.

Types and shades

Nature and ornamental gardening has more than 300 varieties of sophisticated plants. But more often, only 3 are used to make a wedding bouquet of carnations:

  1. "Bearded" or Turkish - fell in love with florists due to the special structure of bracts, which are covered with "cilia" along the edge.
  2. Chinese - large flowers with a simple or double structure. In addition, these carnations have a characteristic edging of a different shade, which makes the bouquet more spectacular.
  3. Shabo - garden variety with large fragrant single flowers. The selectively bred species is cultivated in all European countries, therefore it is distinguished by a wide palette of petals.

According to florists, the listed varieties are considered optimal, especially the classic version - white carnations. A wedding bouquet using these varieties always looks fresh and beautiful.

But no one canceled the experiments: for example, instead of the traditional spherical composition, choose a basket of purple, lilac-pink or raspberry alpine carnations with jagged edges and a slightly corrugated surface.

Wedding florists should love these flowers, if only because they indulge in a variety of shades. Buds can be brooding lavender, pristine white, classic red or soft pink. Bouquets of carnations acquire an equally fabulous look, the petals of which are painted in sunny orange, brightlypurple or deep green.

Combination with other plants

Romantic and delicate Lisianthus are a bit like roses. It is this similarity that gave them the second name - the Japanese rose. Lisianthuses come in different shades, but lilac and white look the most impressive in the composition.

A wedding bouquet of carnations and roses will become an elegant accessory in the hands of a newlywed. Amazing beauty and nobility have turned roses into the favorite flowers of florists. Plants will look interesting both in one shade and in colors combined with each other.

A bouquet of lace caps of large buds of carnations and small freesias, irises and alstroemerias turns out to be unusually tender. Such combinations are recommended to be diluted with sprigs of greenery.

Carnation and eustoma in a wedding bouquet will look most original with maple leaves, rowan berries and pine branches.

Pink or white?

A wedding bouquet of carnations can fit into almost any style of wedding ceremony. The main thing is to choose the right palette of shades, a combination of colors with other plants.

For example:

  • A wedding in a classic style is impossible to imagine without a bouquet of snow-white carnations.
  • If the theme of the celebration implies shabby chic, then flowers in a pastel pink or cream palette are ideal in this case.
  • Eco-style can not do without green carnations.
  • Vintage will complement the bouquet of lilac tones, while it is recommended to give preference not to a spherical, but to a falling composition.
  • Evenglamor did not remain indifferent to the "flowers of Zeus". In this case, terry "flowers of Zeus" will ideally fit into the image of the bride.

Harmony with image

As mentioned earlier, carnation petals resemble lace, which means that a bouquet of these flowers will perfectly complement any dress: from puffy to mermaid style, and add femininity to a snow-white trouser suit.

The main thingso that the shade of the plants does not argue with the main tone of the wedding dress. For example, there can be no question of any harmony if the bride's dress is cream and the bouquet was made up of beige carnations. It is easier to play on contrasts: a white outfit and red flowers. But even in this case, lilac or pink carnations will be appropriate.

The second option is in harmony with the elements of the groom's wardrobe. For example, a wedding bouquet of purple carnations to a tie of the same shade.

Symbolic language

Florists claim that the carnation is the personification of female love, honor, fidelity and freedom. In ancient Greece and Rome, the "flowers of Zeus" were woven into the wreaths of the ruling persons, the nobility and handed over to the winners.

  • white carnations - a kind of wish for guests of success and good luck;
  • yellow - this color is recommended to be used not in the composition, but in the design of the wedding decor, as a rule, such carnations were given for one purpose: to clarify the relationship, the causes of resentment and inattention;
  • pink - a symbol of motherly love;
  • striped - not very suitable for such an important celebration, because in the language of flowers they express a firm "no".

Difficulties of choice: buds or miniature carnations

Modern floristry decorates flower arrangements with various little things - rhinestones, sequins, ribbons, pearls and even a brooch. The choice of a wedding bouquet depends on the makeup, dress and hairstyle.

Young brides are advised to give preference to unopened buds as a symbol of innocence. Blooming carnations are suitable for girls of mature age. In a bouquet of miniature brides, the Shabo variety will look most advantageous.

In the end, I would like to note that these are just general recommendations, because the wedding day is a great opportunity for incredible experiments. In any case, the right bouquet of carnations will help to tell the newlywed exactly what she wants the guests to hear on the happiest day of her life.
