With the abolition of Russian astronomy schools, fewer and fewer graduates know at least something about the stars. But it is not always knowledge that decides everything, since people still love to look at the stars, which still beckon with their incomprehensible romance. The only thin thread that can bring us a little closer to these luminaries is a spotting scope. Few people did not dream in childhood of a real telescope through which every star and planet could be viewed. You have a chance to fulfill this dream, if not for yourself, then for your children: buy a telescope for them.
How to choose the right one?
Uninitiated in the subtleties of optics, it is not easy to understand the structure of even a simple binocular, not to mention such a complex device as a spotting scope. But the bottom line is that when choosing it, it is not at all necessary to know so much. Any spotting scope has several basic characteristics: objective lens diameter, magnification and exit pupil diameter.
In the instructions for any model you choose, you can find a postscript, for example, 10x30, where 10 is the magnification factor, and 30 is the lens diameter. The range and quality of the view primarily depend on the magnification, but chasing too largeindicators are not worth it, since the higher the magnification, the lower the stability of the picture. As a result, at too high a magnification, your spotting scope will simply blur the image.
To compensate for this error, a larger lens diameter is used. Accordingly, the higher it is, the more light enters it, and the clearer the visibility of distant objects. Try to choose ratios where the lens diameter is at least three to four times the magnification. The next Quality Score depends on this.
Exit pupil diameter is not indicated anywhere, but its size can be determined by dividing 30 by 10 (the second number by the first). As a result, we get 3 mm, which will be the indicator of the exit pupil. Its optimal size should be no more than 4.25 and no less than 3.50 mm, otherwise your spotting scope will not produce a high-quality image of the observed objects.
Yukon spotting scopes are the most popular among both professionals and amateurs. This firm supports
balance between price and quality, offering the most reasonable price for certain options. Of course, there are many other firms, but why risk quality or overpay for a big name?
Don't be fooled! There are no spotting scopes for observing the sky at night: there is too little light for the image to be even slightly clear. However, store clerks often try toplay on the inexperience of their customers, listing obviously non-existent functions. Always carefully study the technical characteristics of the device and do not overpay for unnecessary little things.
Now that you know exactly how to choose a good spyglass, it's time to act. And remember that a spotting scope is not just a tool, it is something with which you yourself will remember your childhood, fulfilling your cherished dream. In addition, you will give your children the opportunity, looking at the sky, to also dream of the unattainable, great and beautiful!
