Bald dogs: nature's mistake or gift?

Even in the time of the Aztecs, dog breeds were known that were completely devoid of wool. Today, these cute decorative hairless dogs have found a lot of fans who wholeheartedly love the gentle, defenseless, warm-skinned little creature.

Among all the hairless breeds, the most famous are the Hairless Terrier, Mexican Hairless, Chinese Crested and Peruvian Hairless. And although they practically do not leave shreds of hair on the floor, they do not smell and fleas, it is quite troublesome to keep such animals.

Naked pets should be cared for in the same way as small children. In the summer, they should be lubricated with a moisturizer so that their delicate skin does not burn. In winter, hairless dogs need warm clothes and shoes, without which they can freeze their paws or get sick. They need to be washed twice a week, as skin without wool gets dirty pretty quickly.

For example, American Hairless Terriers, by the way, the smallest dogs in the world, are very timid. Frightened by something, they sweat profusely. Therefore, they must be protected from stressful situations. They are very small, height at the withers is25-35 cm, and weigh only 3-5 kg. Puppies are born covered with hair, but become bald in just one and a half to two months. Their skin has a different color, so you can see white, red, gray, pink and even spotted American terriers.

This is an animal with highly developed facial expressions. Bald dogs express all existing emotions on their muzzle: surprise, fear, sadness, joy and even a smile. And if they are dissatisfied with something, then they can make a touchy grimace.

This inquisitive kid captivates with his cheerfulness, energy and friendliness. He strives to always be the center of attention. It is easy to teach him various tricks, he will be infinitely happy to perform them in front of the audience.

Small and graceful Chinese Crested dogs are unusually affectionate, active and clean. Small patches of hair sometimes grow on their body, so they need to be epilated. Excess vegetation on their paws is removed either with a regular depilatory cream or wax.

The diet of hairless dogs is the same as that of their ordinary counterparts, but more high-calorie, because they need more energy not to freeze, but to maintain body temperature at the same level.

Hairless dogs also have other developmental abnormalities, such as altered or missing teeth. Modern geneticists call this whole complex of symptoms ectodermal dysplasia. They believe that this disease in dogs is caused by a change in genes. Scientists claim that nature laughed at animals, making them different from other breeds of dogs, changing everythingjust a few elementary "building blocks" of DNA.

Although hairless dogs are not very attractive in appearance, they are endowed with a kind and devoted heart. So, lively, alert and energetic terriers like the company of a person, and they willingly make contact with people. Because they are very inquisitive, they are easy to train.

Mexican naked, or xolo, as it is also called, is very exotic in appearance. By her nature, she is quite calm, meek, intelligent and attentive. She has strong and dense skin, which is almost not exposed to sunburn, damage or insect bites. True, because of such properties, it is very difficult to vaccinate and implant chips. A cheerful bald dog is considered a national treasure in Mexico.

Peruvian naked (Peruvian Inca orchid) is rare even in its homeland. These are fast, affectionate, intelligent hairless dogs, whose photos adorn the albums of their owners. They love the home environment. Unfortunately, they are almost never found here in Russia, as they do not tolerate cold well. In winter, the skin of these interesting animals brightens, in spring it slowly gets used to the sun, and in summer it is prone to tanning.

According to genetic scientists, baldness in dogs, unlike humans, does not need to be treated. It does not interfere with animals, but it causes tenderness in people.
