The story of the savannah cat

Many rich people of our time, in order to emphasize their status, want to get some large exotic feline animal, so that a cheetah or puma can rest by the fireplace, so that they can be walked on a leash, catching passers-by with fear. But, unfortunately, real cougars, lions and tigers do not have the character to coexist peacefully in a person’s house, even if the chickens do not peck at that money. It's only in the circus that they jump over the ring and perform different commands. Bonzes tried to keep servals at home - after all, these predators are smaller. But the gloomy and unsociable nature of this African animal nullifies all the joy of communication. The solution was found in 1986, when the American breeder Judy Frank managed to get offspring from a male serval and a short-haired domestic cat of the Oriental breed.

The first generation is actually a hybrid of a serval and a domestic cat, reaches 60 cm at the withers, and such an animal weighs more than 15 kg. They are affectionate, loyal, eat regular pet food, get along well with households, dogs and relatives, playful and quite social. But there were difficulties in breeding them: savannah males are sterile until the fourth generation. Therefore, females of this breed were crossed with cats (Egyptian Mau, short-haired Oriental or Bengal, and also - to improve he alth - with outbred cats). The offspring from such marriages noticeably "smaller" - after all, the blood of the serval was diluted. Hence the difference in price for kittens: from

one to 10 thousand US dollars.

Today the most expensive cat breed in the world is the Savannah. The price for a baby depends on the generation and gender. Girls are valued much more than boys, who, as we remember, are barren up to the fourth generation. A direct hybrid of a serval - very large cats, in whose veins 53% of the blood of an African father flows, are most highly valued. They are called Savannah F1. Those who have a serval grandfather (25%) are characterized as F2. Next come F3, 4 and 5. These last ones are crossed again with the natural serval by the breeders. The process of mating, pregnancy and childbirth are fraught with great difficulties, because the African predatorthree times the size of a pet.

The Ashera Affair

Savannah cats are big, but customers wanted even bigger ones. This is

spurred a certain Simon Brody into a risky scam. He posted a photo of Savannah kittens on the Internet and proclaimed that he genetically bred a new breed - Ashera, whose representatives reach one meter at the withers. Orders and money transfers immediately fell on him, but as a result, customers did not wait for their cats. And Brody is now on the wanted list.

Character

F1 savannah cats have taken their mother's friendliness, sociability and complaisance. But they inherited no less valuable qualities from their father. Experts say that representatives of this breed are extremely intelligent. They are easy to train, learn commands and generally behave like dogs. By the way, if your house has both a cat and a dog, Savannah will prefer the company of the latter. These animals love walking on a leash and swimming in ponds. They are always full of energy and love to jump and frolic.
