Great Dane Standard
The constitution of the Great Dane should be dry, with strongly pronounced muscles, the skeleton is well developed, and the skin is elastic, but not sagging, forming folds.
The height of males at the withers must exceed 80 centimeters, for females this standard is 10 centimeters lower. The sacrum of both sexes should be a couple of centimeters below the withers. As for sexual dimorphism, it is quite pronounced: males are larger and more massive.
Dogs range in weight from 54 to 90 kg for males and 45 to 65 kg for females.
The head is noticeably elongated, with a characteristic sharp transitionforehead to nose. Jaws well developed, but not protruding. The eyes are dark and almond-shaped.
There are several basic coat colors: black, fawn (ranging from ocher to light red), harlequin (snow-white base with black spots all over the body), brindle (fawn with black stripes), blue (gray, steel, mouse).
The coat is short, thick, without undercoat.
The tail is set high, saber-shaped, thinning from base to tip.
Features of behavior
Great Dane is a social dog, which is why he gets along well in families with children. However, it should be remembered that, in addition, this breed requires a special attitude towards itself. Firstly, Great Dane puppies, like adult dogs, need a special diet and certain physical activities, not to mention the need to closely monitor their he alth. And secondly, representatives of this breed need constant attention from the owner, who will be very missed in the event of an unforeseen separation.
Great Dane is perfectly trainable, but it is very difficult to retrain him. A properly designed training program can prepare this dog for almost any activity. However, the German Great Dane best of all manifests itself as a guard of a person and his property.
I would like to say a few words about the opinion of the people about the aggressive nature of the representatives of this breed.
