Every novice aquarist should know that there are special subtleties in keeping and breeding fish. For example, you need to know not only what aquarium fish eat. The compatibility of certain species also plays a huge role.

Habitat

It is important to know whether the aquarium fish chosen by a person prefer to live in fresh or brackish water. Habitat compatibility is one of the main aspects of keeping pets he althy. This should also include the temperature regime that is optimal for a particular species. Many aquarium fish, whose chemical compatibility is ideal, differ in their attitude to high or low temperatures.

Predators pose a threat to the "calm population"

You can not keep together predatory fish that feed preferably on live food, and peaceful ones that eat plankton, insect larvae. If individuals of peaceful species are large in size, then a smaller predator may be wary of attacking it. But once it reachesof the required size, for the life of a peaceful neighbor, the owner of the aquarium needs to start to be afraid and take action: divide the container with opaque glass, seat the fish or give one of the species to another aquarist.

The size of the inhabitants of the artificial reservoir

Putting large and small inhabitants together is a thankless task. Indeed, even those aquarium fish whose compatibility in terms of habitat, water temperature and nutrition can be considered ideal will experience discomfort if an individual of a satisfied large species lives next to small fish. Firstly, the difference in size will affect the amount of food consumed: smaller representatives will surely get only those crumbs that larger and stronger aquarium fish “disdain”. Compatibility in an aquarium of fish species directly depends on their size. By the way, even within the same species, the same rule should be followed: try to keep individuals of approximately the same age and volume together. It is easiest to breed small schooling fish: they are beautiful, rather unpretentious, affordable and do not require much effort to care for. These are guppies, striped zebrafish, barbs, swordtails, picilli, mollies. But even here there are rules: it is still better to keep the fry separately until they reach such a size that they can no longer fit in the mouth of their own mother or papule.

Temperament is the most important criterion for a friendlyneighborhood

Different in temperament, many creatures on earth, including aquarium fish. Compatibility of species prone to fights with species of calm schooling fish is zero. Such "fighters" as Siamese fighting, that is, cockerels, start fights even among themselves, what can we say about a calm neighborhood with other, smaller and less temperamental fish. Male cockerels are even recommended not to be kept in the same aquarium - the fighting spirit is so strong in them. Some aquarium owners say that the cockerel can even attack its own reflection! Astronotus has a similar temperament: two males are closely "under the same roof".
