Oh, what a beautiful word - love! Memories alone make you shine, one word about her seems to wrap you in a cocoon of intimacy and some mystery. A great many poets sing of this feeling with incredible inspiration. Their revelations make you want the same lightness, inhale the same sweet floral aroma. On gently rustling pages and in the gentle harmony of music, love seems capable of any miracles. But is this "wanting to touch" so noble in real life?
Carnal love
One of the most important instincts inherent in a person is procreation. It is not surprising that the desire to merge in a single ecstasy with the person who attracts us often arises and is not always easy to resist. Mother Nature made us feel the pleasure of sex so that we would strive for satisfaction and continue to populate the planet. Society, however, often makes us ashamed of this and closes these "dirty" skeletons tightly behind the wardrobe door. So who is right? Carnal love isugly or natural?
Many of us have acquaintances who are quite successful in carnal pleasures. Yes, they evoke different emotions in everyone. But what do we call them? From the point of view of nature, they are "alpha males". Society hangs on them the label of "slaves of carnal love." Basically, both are right. Just each in their own way.
Carnal love is quite common. It usually does not imply the presence of romantic feelings for the person. It is only the passion of mastering the body. Thirst for satisfaction. Fear of physical loneliness, if you will. Agree, this is not the kind of love that pours out of beautiful poems. So what inspires artists to create?
Platonic love
If "carnal" love is obviously based on the flesh, then "Platonic" refers us to the notorious philosopher Plato. It is he who, through the mouth of the character, talks about spiritual love, positioning it as "ideal" and "real".
Do you know the feeling of satisfaction from just being next to a person? From idle conversations and harmless disputes? We believe that it is familiar, and we hope that it is not by hearsay. Platonic love is a craving not for the body, but for the personality of a person. It suggests a certain asexuality, a lack of physical attraction.
From the point of view of nature, such behavior is considered at least unreasonable. However, who cares about her when you can enjoy music together and discuss routine events like exciting adventures. Who cares aboutsurvival when there is a person nearby, without whom life seems to have no meaning.
Yes, such a feeling can definitely bring inspiration. That is what permeates the lines of romantic works. But we also know that feelings come and go, never staying at the owner's hand. How to be then? After all, having risen so high, the fall will be very painful. And where did the ordinary, "earthly" desire for physical love go? After all, nature cannot be defeated. Or are all these lofty words about love nothing more than a myth?
History
Before answering these questions, let's go back a little. Namely, we will take a look at the love and carnal pleasures of the ancient world with one eye. We will not dive into too much detail, so as not to frighten sensitive readers. After all, I must say, the people of antiquity were much more open in love affairs than our contemporaries. Let's start with the homeland of the great philosophers.
Ancient Greece
Take, for example, the body cult of the ancient Greeks. Let us recall the ancient Greek statues of naked bodies, of which there are many. Absolutely nothing covered, no hint of embarrassment or, God forbid, censorship. All the curves of the body are presented in amazing detail, which, by the way, is very conducive to raising self-esteem.
Or take the Olympics filled with naked athletes. The beauty of their bodies was appreciated. This was the "decoration" of the event itself and did not carry any erotic overtones. Suchthe phenomenon, however, is difficult to imagine for people of the 21st century, but then naked bodies were perceived by many as routine, because they were not "forbidden fruit". Few people were interested in the issue of the convenience of fighting naked.
Relations "master" - "student" were considered normal, and sexual intercourse was considered an important aspect of "learning". And in Sparta, such relationships were generally included in a public institution. In general, same-sex love was in the order of things, so that people could drink, so to speak, from two "springs" at once.
Roman Empire
The society of the great Roman Empire led a no less "obtrusive" way of life. Severe legionnaires and wise emperors also had to somehow rest from continuous expansion. The barbarian tribes didn't have much to offer, so they had to manage on their own. Oh, and if suddenly you are overtaken by an irresistible desire for affection right during a military campaign, and around you there are only gloomy faces in "iron crowns". The mood will deteriorate, and without a mood, there can be no talk of love.
Besides homosexuality, prostitution was widely used. The courtesans quickly wedged themselves into the public institution. No criticism, of course. Regular work for the benefit of society. Service for a coin. The profession is the oldest, you need to have respect.
True love?
Well, okay, a little laugh, a little wince, but it's time to return to our time. We realized that the people of the ancient erawould give odds even to the most liberated of us. The question of what carnal love means did not bother people so much. But the time of these great states has passed, and the time has come to raise new questions in old things.
At the present time, many are convinced that carnal love is a false feeling. Indeed, it is difficult to call it "true". But, back to the questions, can we accept only platonic love? It doesn't really fit in with our beliefs. Many couples cite lack of sex as the reason for their breakup.
Poets sing of platonic love, because you want to share such a feeling. It brings with it an amazing friendliness and openness. But if you look at carnal love, which was so unfairly stoned, then an understanding of its benefits comes. Yes, songs like this are rarely written about. She does not want to share precisely because she is too personal. In such love, people often reveal themselves from an unexpected side. They accept each other for who they are, with all the "demons" and shortcomings. Behind closed curtains, they are left alone with their instincts and cease to be ashamed of them. And this "desire of the flesh" in no way diminishes carnal and spiritual love.
Result
As it turned out, platonic and carnal love are completely different things, which, however, in symbiosis give us a familiar feeling. None of them is worse or better than the other. They are just different and for different people. Carnallove is what the blood whispers to us. Our mind screams about platonic love. And ultimately, only you decide who to listen to.
