Choosing the style of curtains for the kitchen window is, let's say, not an easy task. It would seem, what is the difficulty? After all, the kitchen is a room where thick curtains, multi-layered heavy draperies that darken and cover the window are not needed. However, curtains play an important role in the overall decor of the room, it is their shape and color that become the finishing touch. Complex textile compositions on the windows always look beautiful. Frills, swags, long flowing frills falling down the window give the room a refined look even with the simplest furnishings. Is it worth it to make lambrequins in the kitchen? Why not. The main thing is to choose the right shape and color, taking into account the style and specifics of the room. Lambrequin is a universal decor. It can perfectly complement both a classic interior and a modern one, shining with gloss and metal. However, we note that you should not make lambrequins too complex and multi-layered in the kitchen. Stillthis room is intended for cooking, and this process is associated with various fumes, soot, which settles on all surfaces with a greasy coating that requires constant cleaning, and therefore the curtains in the kitchen are washed more often. It is difficult to care for draperies, washing and then smoothing out the folds is a whole problem. Therefore, we will opt for simpler, but no less attractive models. The same applies to the choice of fabrics. Curtains and pelmets for the kitchen are sewn from materials that tolerate washing well: thick cotton fabrics, polyester, silk.

Now let's pick a style. In the kitchen, pelmets made in the form of a frill, simple, but very attractive, can be sewn by yourself. Such a simple style is suitable for various interiors. A small flower, polka dots and a cage will perfectly complement a classic or romantic style, while plain or striped fabrics in the color of kitchen fronts, decorated with a contrasting light and sophisticated finish, will decorate a modern interior. By approaching the process creatively, combining several different fabrics, using braid and appliqué, you can sew light curtains and very beautiful lambrequins for the kitchen yourself (photo). Design novelties also offer to choose a similar window decor for blinds or roller blinds, which will soften the severity of the lines and bring playfulness and additional comfort to the interior. For example, a window with blinds looks original, complemented by a lambrequin made of separate narrow parts of two similar colors, with tassel-decorated corners.

Usually, a pelmet is cut out with a width equal to 1/6 of the height of the curtain, and its finished length should be equal to the length of the cornice. Additionally, for fluffy assemblies, add at least 1/3 more length. The folds are collected using curtain tape, sewn on the reverse side and pulled to the desired distance. On the window, the pelmet is fixed firmly; it should not move along with the curtains. For this, a special cornice is selected, the front side of which is trimmed with Velcro tape, on which it is convenient to attach the assembled fabric. You can hang it on an additional rod or fix it directly on the top of the eaves.

Flat pelmets are also suitable for the kitchen. They also pair well with blinds, tulle and roman blinds. For the manufacture of such a model, a pattern must be used. A preliminary preparation of a curly shape and the desired size is made from paper, strictly measured according to the size of the cornice. Then the part is cut out from the main and lining fabric, leaving hem allowances at the top and bottom. In order for a flat lambrequin to keep its shape well, a dense adhesive base is laid between the fabric and the lining. A similar model is attached only to the top of the cornice, completely covering it. This is done with Velcro tape, one part of which is fixed on the cornice, and the other on the lambrequin. Such a lambrequin can look strict and concise, or it can be very romantic if made of fabric with a bright floral print.
