And when is Doctor's Day celebrated around the world?
It is celebrated every year, in autumn, on the first Monday of October. This date was chosen by the World He alth Organization. It was she who initiated the creation of a specialized holiday for medical workers. And first of all, this is a day of solidarity for all doctors on the planet, a day of active action to preserve the he alth of the population.
Doctor is one of the oldest professions on Earth. The origins of the word lead to the Old Slavonic "lie". And if now this word has a negative connotation, then in the old days it meant something completely different - “whisper”, “talk”, because even doctors then were largely healers, sorcerers, and only then - surgeons and herbalists. And when Doctor's Day was proposed to be celebrated annually, many gladly supported this initiative. And first of all, this holiday is aimed at drawing attention to people who bring the ideals of humanism to the world, saving the lives of others. Doctors Without Borders was created with this lofty goal in mind. This organization was born in 1971 with the support of UNICEF and the International Red Cross, under the auspices of the United Nations. It works on a charitable basis, exists at the expense of voluntary contributions and public donations. Everyone understands that her help is extremely important, because the main patients of MSF are victims of natural disasters, armed conflicts, wars, epidemics and terrorism. And these people, selflessly working in hot spots, saving the lives of millions of people, like no one else show the highest destiny of doctors. And it was to honor them that World Doctor's Day was established.
