Among the proposed range of ammunition for dogs there are collars, harnesses, leashes, roulettes, ringovkas, parfoses, nooses and half-nooses made of various materials. To choose the best, the dog owner must consider the needs of his pet. The choice is influenced by the size of the animal, comfort on walks and the purpose of using the leash.
Styles of dog leashes
There are several styles of dog leashes. The most common are standard fixed length leashes. They can be made from leather or nylon, often with reflective details for nighttime visibility and safety. The standard length is one and a half meters, but there are variations of leashes designed for large or small breeds.
Purpose of the choke leash
Each dog has an individual character. And if a pet of a large breed turned out to be a passionate hunter and an energetic explorer, not missing the gaze of street cats and yard dogs, if he is ready at any moment to break loose in pursuit ofsomeone else's ball or a bird flying above the ground, and the tonnage of the owner dangling at the other end of the leash is not at all terrible for him, a leash for dogs will come to the rescue. This miracle of cynological ammunition is able to stop a four-legged friend without titanic efforts on the part of the dog breeder.
Over time, when a persistent conditioned reflex is formed in the dog, which does not allow it to abruptly break away, it will be possible, if desired, to replace the noose leash with a standard collar.
Use for behavior correction and training
The noose is indispensable when training a young dog. She unobtrusively dampens the excitement from external distractions, focusing on the owner's commands. The leash-noose in skillful hands is completely safe and does not cause any noticeable discomfort to the dog. When jerking, the reduction in the volume of incoming air reflexively extinguishes bursts of temperament.
Actually, the noose is a collar that lacks the usual clasp. It is replaced by two restrictive rings. Passing the collar itself into one ring, the loop formed in this way is put on the dog's neck. A leash is fastened to the ring through which the noose does not slip. With a loose leash, the collar freely wraps around the neck. When the leash is pulled, the collar tightens like a noose, causing discomfort to the dog.
There are also leashes with locks for dogs or half-choke collars with three rings. The principle is the same, the third ring is a lock-limiter that does not allow the collar to be tightened lesscertain size.
Classification by material of manufacture
Pet stores offer a wide range of dog leashes with and without retainers. They are made of leather and leather substitutes, nylon cord, metal chains and links. When choosing a noose for a particular dog, one must soberly evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the material from which the noose is made.
Nylon collar is the most durable, glides perfectly without clinging to the ring. But there is a danger of injuring the dog's neck and hands in the event of a sharp jerk.
Metal can stain the dog's coat at the point of contact. In addition, the chain can pull the wool when it hits the junctions of the links. Metal chokes are absolutely not suitable for long-haired light-colored dogs, but look very presentable on smooth-haired dogs.
Do-it-yourself choke leash
Making a braided dog collar is easy. You will need about 4 meters of nylon cord, three metal rings, universal glue, a piece of heat shrink tubing and a strong synthetic thread. Pass the ropes through the ring and weave a pigtail from the cord of the required length with a small margin. The length of the garrote is calculated as the girth of the dog's neck minus the diameter of the ring. In the process of weaving a pigtail, a locking ring is woven in at a distance depending on the size of the collar. Having completed the weaving, thread the end of the pigtail into the second ring, bend and singe on the flame of a candle or lighter, fusing the bent ends withpigtail behind the ring. For greater reliability, tightly wrap the junction with a thread and glue it. Also, fix the retainer ring with a thread on the glue.
Since it is not always possible to do this neatly, you can thread the ends of the cord into the heat shrink tube before fixing the ring and cover the junction with it at the end of work.
The garrote is ready.
