By 1859, the so-called artificial crinoline appeared. What is it and how did it differ from the previous version? Steel strips or whalebone strips began to be sewn into the skirt. They gave, according to that fashion, even more splendor to the figure. Ladies were instructed to take "noble poses", which made it easy to make a crinoline. In addition, they could observe external modesty, keeping their cavaliers at a respectful distance, determined by the width of the frame. Less puffy petticoats were made for everyday dresses, but for evening dresses they were made verywide and long.

Modern crinolines
