Everything connected with the Russian wedding is rooted in the distant past. This event is one of the most important in a person's life, and the attitude towards it is appropriate - serious and responsible. A dowry was collected for a girl from childhood. The wedding general, sung by A. P. Chekhov, who can subtly notice everything funny, has become a household name. Because he was invitedsolely for the “beautiful picture”, then over time, any figure engaged for representation and who could neither influence the course of the event, nor have an opinion about what was happening, began to be called a wedding general.

On the wallet and a guest at the wedding

Actually, there is nothing wrong with the naive desire to be no worse than others, but often the desire to be significant out of rank looks ridiculous. This was emphasized by the brilliant Chekhov in his work "The Wedding", where the wedding general became the central figure of the event.

Standing among strangers and strangers, with the sole purpose of giving a higher status to the event, he becomes the protagonist of the wedding. Nevertheless, such a custom existed in reality, it was adhered to, and the owners of restaurants in which weddings were held had such people in mind and knew clear prices for such guests. Above all, the acting military general, who has the right to wear a uniform, was valued. A retired general went cheaper, and only as a last resort a civilian general was invited. Rates were appropriate. It is easy to understand that the "wedding general" with ranks and regalia was available only to very we althy people who had weight in society even without this character, and his presence was a ritual, a tribute to traditions. The poorer people have always tried to imitate the powers that be.

The nominal image that gave the name to the new project

Of course, this character has its roots inAncient Russia, to those times when the merchant class was born, when the traditions of this estate began to take shape. And A. P. Chekhov simply noticed the funny side of the event that existed before him. The talent of the writer made this image and everything connected with it so interesting that some attribute to him the creation of this character. Wedding traditions are part of the culture of the people, and Russia is a multinational country. Knowing more about the history of neighbors is interesting and necessary. This is what the Russian TV channel My Planet took care of. "Wedding General" is a project of round-the-clock educational "My Planet" and "Russia 1". Each people and nationality inhabiting our country and not only has its own unique national characteristics. The transmission is good not only because it tells about them, but also because what is thus accumulated by previous generations is resurrected, preserved and transmitted to the next generations. Much credit for this leading Sergei Belogolovtseva. The project is new, it is not even a year old. Viewers are told for 44 minutes (the length of each episode) about a real event taking place in real time (staged stunts are not allowed).

A new reality show shows the most joyful and colorful event, along the way explaining what this or that tradition means (why at a Jewish wedding the groom crushes a glass with his heel, and at a Tatar wedding they smear their lips with honey). The goal pursued by the program "Wedding General" is not only to show a beautiful and original picture, but also to acquaint with the ancient customs of a particular ethnic group, with its culture,history of certain traditions. Series about the northern Russian wedding, about the Tatar, Kabardino-Balkarian, Israeli and Tuscan (Italy) marriage have already been shot. A total of 6 episodes were released, the first of which, dedicated to the Dolgan-Nganasan wedding (Dudinka), was released in June 2014.

Better to see once

The program "Wedding General" tells about these joyful events in different parts of the world in a very interesting way. The Tatar wedding that took place in the city of Arsk is a vivid example of this. Sergei Belogolovtsev tells in detail about everything that accompanies this event - where Arsk is located, how he lives, who the bride and groom are, what dishes are served on the table, what the guests give. It is impossible to retell it - you can and should watch the program. The "leader" in the intro for each program appears in a white general's uniform.
