The trend of caring for he alth and longevity in the last decade has turned out to be one of the most noticeable and popular. One of the reasons for this was the fashion for the spiritual development of man, the rejection of an exclusively consumer attitude towards the environment and, of course, the “erasing” of borders between countries and continents. That is why the idea to hold World He alth Days belongs to the international organization WHO (World He alth Organization).

How it all started

In 1948, under the auspices of the UN, the World He alth Organization was founded, designed to coordinate and direct all UN efforts in the field of protecting the he alth of the inhabitants of the planet. It is responsible for addressing global he alth issues, setting current research topics and setting he alth norms and standards. In addition, by monitoring and evaluating the dynamics of the he alth situation inworld, WHO is developing policies to support countries in need.

One of the goals of the World He alth Organization is to provide access not only to medical care, but also to information that provides general protection against potential threats. This feature is implemented through World He alth Days.

April 7

In order to attract public attention to he alth problems, various events are held throughout the year at the initiative of WHO. The most famous of them is World He alth Day. It is held annually on April 7 - it was on this day in 1948 that the decision was made to establish the World He alth Organization.

Of course, educational work is carried out more than once a year. The most threatening and potentially dangerous problems of mankind "received" their dates and are also annual. We are talking about the he alth of children, the problems of cancer and tuberculosis, the fight against tobacco smoking and drug use, environmental protection and the prevention of man-made disasters, etc. These socially significant issues for humanity should be "on everyone's lips" in order to reduce their threat and improve the standard of living of people in all corners of our planet.

All medical institutions are expected to carry out explanatory work and activities aimed at disseminating information about a specific problem. Volunteer organizations are also used by WHO staff to help raise public awareness.

Point out a problem is half the battle

World He alth Days have their own focus and focus on a priority area of he alth. So, last year, the event was dedicated to the fight and prevention of vector-borne diseases (those that are mainly transmitted through the bites of blood-sucking insects). The day's campaign helped spread awareness not only about vectors and the diseases they cause, but also about how people can stay safe and protect themselves.

In 2013, WHO drew people's attention to the prevention of hypertension. The statistics on this issue are cruel: every third person in the world suffers from this disease. The main activities were aimed at reducing the number of heart attacks and strokes.

Even earlier, in 2012, World He alth Day events were held under the motto "Good mood adds life to years." The main topic was the aging of mankind and the excess of the number of people over the age of 65 over young people. Of course, we all want our loved ones and ourselves to live as long as possible. What is necessary for this and how one should live, was discussed in the materials of the WHO.

What are we talking about today?

World He alth Day 2015 was dedicated to food safety. It would seem, what could be dangerous in food? But in the world, about 2 million people die every year (mostly children) from "food poisoning". In fact, everything is much more complicated, because unsafe products canprovoke the appearance of almost 200 diseases, the simplest of which is diarrhea. Viruses and parasites, pathogenic bacteria and chemicals that enter our body can eventually cause cancer.

Today we have the opportunity to taste products grown or prepared in any country in the world. Logistics supply chains are international in nature. That is why WHO focuses on the need for consolidation of governments of all countries in food safety issues.

World He alth Day, with the slogan "From Farm to Plate, Making Food Safe!", aims to educate people about the importance of accessing safe nutrients and water to support a normal life.

What else is WHO paying attention to

According to WHO staff, every year to draw attention to some current problem is an important, but small contribution to the development of the he alth system. After all, there are global issues that truly threaten humanity. In addition to April 7, there are other dates when World He alth Days are celebrated. In fact, WHO throughout the year focuses our attention on the need to protect our own he alth and longevity.

So, what other days of the calendar should you pay attention to? Of course, there is no need to list absolutely everything, but we will recall some. So, at the beginning of the year there are two interesting dates:

February 12 is celebrated as International Day of the Sick. After all, despite the mass of he althy people, there are those who undergo outpatient treatment. WHO calls to listen to their rights and problems.

March 1 is another World He alth Day - Immunity Day. The need to maintain and strengthen the immune system is not spoken only by the lazy. After all, in fact, we are talking about the internal capabilities of our body to resist viruses, infections and pathogenic bacteria. Therefore, each person will be very useful information about ways to strengthen immunity throughout life.

Forewarned is forearmed

March 24, World TB Day, we once again remember the complexity and prevalence of this disease. And about the elementary rules of hygiene: their observance greatly reduces the risk of developing the disease. And you also need to remember that tuberculosis can be cured, and the sooner the diagnosis is made, the easier and faster the rehabilitation will be.

July 8 is World Allergy Day. Every year there are more and more allergens. And one way to learn how to prevent allergies or how to get rid of attacks is to pay attention to the information distributed on this day.

World versus

31 May is World No Tobacco Day. There is nothing to say here. The harmful effects of tobacco smoke and tar vapors have been repeatedly proven not only on the smoker himself, but also on the people around him. Passive smoking is recognized almost moredangerous than active.

As you can see, every World He alth Day is designed to draw people's attention to a seemingly inconspicuous, but very important problem of humanity. Indeed, today there are still such global horrors as drug addiction (special days to remind about this are March 1, March 19 and June 26), mental imbalance (in the modern world this pathology is becoming an increasingly terrifying threat), problems of old age and raising he althy children.

Caring for children is a global challenge for society

It's not news that human he alth is laid in the womb. And proper upbringing of a child is the best prevention of many diseases. World Children's He alth Day is meant to remind us adults once again of our responsibility to all babies who are not yet able to take care of themselves.

As part of this program, WHO identified the following problems (for them, by the way, special calendar days are also allocated):

  • International Children's Day (June 1);
  • World Breastfeeding Week (July 1-7);
  • Mother's He alth Day (November 26).

Since the he alth and peace of the mother is the key to the correct upbringing of children, WHO calls for providing them with everything necessary.

He alth Worker Days

The task of protecting the he alth of the population, and, if necessary, providing assistance is entrusted to employees of medical institutions. Of course, not all countries can (and want) to ensure the proper level of professionalism in thissphere. Therefore, International Days of He alth Workers is another step towards drawing attention to this global problem.

Throughout the year we "pay tribute" to Red Cross and Red Crescent workers (May 8), nurses (May 12) and all he althcare workers (June 17) several times throughout the year. In addition, WHO also supports such a direction as "Physicians of the World - for Peace", designed to promote the peaceful resolution of emerging conflicts and misunderstandings.
