Medic's Day in Russia, as well as in many former Soviet republics, is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. This holiday is relatively young. It was first celebrated in 1981, after the adoption by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of the corresponding Decree. Its official name is Medical Worker's Day.

On this day, colleagues and patients, friends and relatives of people involved in this field, give them gifts and bring the most sincere congratulations, because this is one of those professions whose representatives literally save a person's life. We all come into contact with doctors in one way or another throughout our lives. And if we or our loved ones get really sick, we grab the phone and call the doctors in the hope that they will come and ease our suffering. And they rush to our aid with the siren on and do everything to make us feel better.

The medical profession is one of the most ancient in the history of mankind. Even ancient people were engaged in healing: at first they tried to do something to relieve their own pain, and then they began totry to help a fellow tribesman. It was at the moment when one person began to take care of the he alth of another that the profession of a doctor was born. Experience and knowledge in the field of medicine accumulated over thousands of years and eventually came to the modern level of development. In order to become a modern doctor, you need to study for a long time, then train, and only after that you can get the right to be called a doctor.

I would like to remind you that Doctor's Day in Russia is celebrated not only by doctors, but also by nurses, laboratory assistants, orderlies, nurses and other "people in white coats" who have something to do with medicine. Indeed, in our time it is a vast industry that includes science, business, government agencies, the service sector and many other related industries. According to the Ministry of He alth of the Russian Federation, at the beginning of 2013, 2 million 162 thousand medical workers were involved in industry organizations.

Medic's Day in Russia does not have its own specific calendar date. The same story with Teacher's Day, Accountant's Day and many other professional holidays. Therefore, every year it is necessary to re-determine when the Medic's Day is celebrated. The number can be viewed on a professional calendar, where it is usually highlighted in red. The state is trying to financially support medicine, rightlybelieving that the general state of he alth of the nation, the life expectancy of citizens and the increase in the birth rate depend on the high level of professionalism of its employees, on the decent technical equipment of the process, on the comfortable working conditions of doctors and the conditions of stay of patients in medical institutions. The national project "He alth" was developed, which included many activities aimed at supporting the industry.

According to the tradition that has developed in recent years, before celebrating the Day of the Medic, the national award "Vocation" is awarded in Russia, the founder of which was the "He alth" program. The award is given in several categories: for saving a person's life during an operation, for discovering a new treatment method and a new medical direction, for loy alty to the profession, and others. Over three hundred doctors from all over Russia have become laureates of the award since its inception.
