Tapestry is a hand-made fabric of dense type, with patterns made on it. It makes very beautiful woven paintings, upholstery for furniture, all kinds of rugs, it can be used to sew a durable and comfortable bag.

In order to make tapestry fabric, you need a loom for weaving, multi-colored threads and, of course, the artistic skill of the weaver. Also for these purposes, you need to stock up on a frame made of wood, threads made of wool and linen, an ordinary table fork and scissors. Now you can try to make a tapestry - a beautiful and useful fabric. First, you need to make a frame of wood, which will serve as a primitive loom for you. The dimensions of the frame must correspond to the future dimensions of the canvas. To do this, you need to multiply the width of the tapestry by three, and the length by two. Example: the size of the product is three hundred by three hundred millimeters, so the frame should be nine hundred by six hundred millimeters.

Tapestry: fabric and base for it

Next, base preparation is required,which is a thread stretched in a vertical position. For these purposes, linen yarn is used, for the reason that it does not stretch and has sufficient strength. The number of rows of threads (warp density) has a hollow dependence on the thickness of the transverse threads, which are called wefts. The thinner the transverse thread, the greater the density of the thread rows in the warp. If we take the average thickness of the weft, then approximately three threads are needed for ten millimeters of warp.

Then you should choose the long side of the wooden frame and wrap it with threads like a spool. It should be noted that the base along its length should be identical to the size of the future tapestry. It is not necessary to pull the warp very tightly, and the interval between the threads is two to four millimeters, since the fingers should be free to move. Before weaving the tapestry pattern, it is necessary to make money, which is later folded onto the ends of the frame or sewn to the wrong side. For these purposes, you should tie a linen thread to the extreme warp thread and, while sampling even warp threads with one hand, with your free hand, skip earnings between them. Having reached the extreme warp thread, move back in the same order, but with a selection of odd threads. Remember that tapestry is a fabric whose manufacturing technology is very complex.

If you work with threads of different colors, then the beginning of the weft must match the selected pattern. To do this, it is quite enough to tie the appropriate thread with a knot to the warp thread in a certain place in the pattern. Notyou should forget about tamping threads in each row. At the end of the work, all the horizontal type threads are attached to the knots. Further, as at the beginning of the tapestry, you should make money. It remains only to trim the warp threads and take their ends into knots. The decoration of the edges of the tapestry can be different: fringe, tassels, pigtails and more.

Self-made tapestry is a very painstaking business, so it's better to use some tips:1. It is best if you have a sketch of the future tapestry prepared before work, and if you are taking on this business for the first time, it is worth making it a little difficult.

2. The best option in the work is the use of threads in the tapestry that are uniform in thickness, structure and quality. Comparing with the sketch, you also need to choose the color scheme of the threads. If you decide to use threads from previously unraveled things, to straighten them, you need to wash them in non-hot water.
