History of Breeding
There are two versions of the American Eskimo breed. According to the first, at the beginning of the twentieth century, German Spitz were brought to the United States. The negative perception of everything Aryan gave a new name - the American Eskimo Spitz. Both breeds do have much in common, but they are positioned as different.
The second version suggests that the appearance of this dog is the result of crossing several original breeds brought to America by immigrants. These include white casehond, german spitz, white italian spitz. The result is a small, compact and very smart dog.
First on themdrew the attention of ordinary circus performers. These dogs' quick wit, ability to learn, along with an attractive appearance, quickly made them the favorites of artists and the public.

The new breed of dog was only officially recognized in 1985 by the American Kennel Club. A little later, it was recognized by such organizations as AKC, CKC, NKC, UKC, ACR, APRI.
Description
All dogs of this breed are divided into three groups:
- Standard Spitz. Height at the withers - from 38 cm to 48 cm, live weight - from 8 kg to 16 kg.
- Miniature American Eskimo. Height from 30 cm to 38 cm, weight from 4.5 kg to 9 kg.
- Toy. Height - from 23 cm to 30 cm, weight - from 2.4 kg to 4.5 kg.
Many signs in animals are similar:
- head - small, with a sharp muzzle;
- ears - triangular, rounded, covered with short hair;
- trunk - compact and strong, slightly elongated;
- tail – curled over the back;
- intelligence is high, the dog is easy and happy to train and master circus tricks;
- character - fearless, playful and accommodating;
- Life expectancy is up to 16 years.
Wool is luxuriousadornment of these dogs. Pure white or cream (shade up to brown is allowed), it completely covers the body of the animal. Forms a fluffy collar on the chest and neck.
The coat consists of two layers - the undercoat and outer hair. The latter is absolutely straight and very soft. Such a "fur coat" does not let water through and perfectly warms the dog. Animal grooming is not required. With proper hair care, there are no problems with it.

There are several features of keeping American Spitz:
- The stormy and cheerful nature of the dog requires an exit. Daily walks with active games will perfectly help to solve this problem.
- Grooming the coat requires thorough combing. This should be done at least twice a week. During molting, this procedure should be daily.

The American Eskimo requires constant attention. Boundless love for the owner has its negative side. An animal should not be left alone for a long time. He will have a nervous breakdown.
