Young mothers often hear from their own mothers something like “Oh, you have a good life now, I bought a pack of diapers - and that's all: no constant washing, no extra fuss with … (childish surprises are meant here, although in life, of course, we call "this business" differently). Despite this, gauze diapers continue to be popular. Why so? After all, it would seem that every family can buy diapers now, but there are really much fewer problems with them.

Advantages and disadvantages of gauze diapers

Let's start with the main disadvantages. Firstly, gauze diapers are not too absorbent, after the child goes to the toilet, you will have to change not only them, but also the sliders, the sheet on which the baby was lying. Some parents get out of the situation by using a bike or flannel instead of gauze: these fabrics themselves are thicker and absorb more liquid.

Another disadvantage is that after repeated washing, gauze diapers for newborns lose theiroriginal white color and gray. It is clear that bleaching fabric that touches the sensitive skin of a baby with bleach is not an option. Fortunately, most modern washing machines are able to cope with this task, and on sale you can find special washing powders designed for children's skin.

It cannot be said that these shortcomings were very significant. Moreover, they fully pay off with the advantages of reusable diapers: this, of course, is cheap and the ability to "breathe", extremely favorable for children's skin, which fashionable disposable counterparts cannot boast of.

How to make DIY reusable diapers?

You're getting ready to be a mommy and want to save the family budget for something else, but when you were choosing diapers for newborns, did gauze seem like the best solution? Great, then let's see how you can make them at home.

The main thing here is not to miscalculate with the size. As a result of machine washing, gauze diapers will shrink several times. So if the triangles you just sewn seem gigantic to you, don't worry.

You will need a gauze cloth (width - 90 cm). We cut squares from it and fold them four times. After that, the free part of the square is folded down diagonally on both sides. It turns out a right triangle. On a typewriter, you need to stitch the bottom sides "a" and "b". And through the resulting "hypotenuse" the product must be turned on the front side.

The finished diaper is washed and ironed on both sides. Here you will see just how much it has decreased in size.

Learning how to put on gauze diapers

Gauze diapers are put on in one of 2 ways:

1. Folded in three layers and placed under the baby's bottom.

2. The finished diaper is folded into a triangle, the lower corner is raised between the baby's legs and secured with two other corners. After that, you need to fix the product: you can attach ribbons from the same gauze to the diaper, swaddle the baby tightly, or put on tight pants over this entire “design”.
