What you need to replace the zipper

Open the zipper, apply to the jacket and combine the marks, equalize the cuts, sweep.

What to do if the sewing machine does not sew a jacket or there is no sewing machine

When replacing a zipper on a leather jacket, the sewing machine may not be able to sew the leather. The method below is also suitable if there is no sewing machine.

In these cases, you can sew a new zipper under the old one. In this case, it is necessary to indent from the links in order to ensure free movement of the lightning slider. You can also cut the zipper links.

If this method does not suit you, you need to look for an industrial sewing machine for leather.

Changing the zipper on a leather jacket

Remove the old zipper by spreading the seams and tearing off the old zipper, which is held on by glue. Deleteleftover threads. We attach a new zipper with leather glue or double-sided tape, then we fasten the jacket and check the coincidence of the neckline, the bottom edges of the jacket and the pocket line by level. We make a connecting line on a special sewing machine.

When sewing on a zipper, make sure that the needle catches the bottom edge of the jacket, since the skin can only be pierced once.

Change the slider

In many cases, only the zipper of the jacket needs to be replaced. If the slider does not close the zipper, then as a temporary measure, it can be tucked in with pliers. In this case, only the dog is changed. Replacement of the zipper is required when its edge is turned into "shags", or if there are no teeth on the tape. The store purchases the same runner number that was for the same type of lock. If in doubt, it's best to take a jacket with you and try to button it up at the store. The slider is removed from the tape after removing the top bartack, which is placed back after inserting the slider. It cannot be put back in a plastic lock of the "tractor" type, instead they put a metal clip from the old lock.
